Three Months Later
I heard the ding of the elevator, stepping off I saw a sight I had sorely missed. In the hallway, I saw Esta and Patrick standing outside his door, talking.
He was facing me and motioned his head for her to turn around. When she did, her face lit up and she ran up to me, jumping up and wrapping herself around me, planting kisses all over my head and face.
"Hey, babe," I said, laughing.
"Hello, gorgeous." She smiled at me.
"You know I think of Funny Girl every time you say that, right?"
"It's half the reason I say it."
"Only half?'
"Well, the other half is because you are gorgeous. Duh."
I put her down and we walked back towards Patrick.
"Hey, man," I said, giving him a hug. "You ready for the big day?"
"Can't wait. So glad you were able to make it."
"Wouldn't miss it for the world."
He laughed, placing his hand on my shoulder, "I know. Plus, I know, more than anything, you've missed this one. And, good lord, how she's missed you." He gave my shoulder a squeeze before giving me a hug. Whispering into my ear, he said, "The only one to put a genuine smile on her face. Remember that."
He pulled away and gave me a smile before letting go. I smiled at him. We talked for a few more minutes before we all decided to call it a night. I started to head to my door when I heard a cough behind me.
"Ahem."
"What?" I asked, turning around. "Just tossing my back inside and then right over."
"Aren't you forgetting something?"
I looked at her for a moment. "I don't think I am."
She giggled, "Niall, you don't live there anymore."
"Oh shit, you're right!" I laughed.
I turned on my heel and headed towards the door that read 411. Walking in, I put my bag down and looked around. I'd been gone a month and Esta had really done a great job of integrating my things in with hers.
"It looks great, babe," I said, looking around.
"You think so? If not, then I can rearrange it or you can put your things where you want to put them. Or yo--"
I shut her up by grabbing her face and kissing her. Try as I might, Jace was still in her head. But I knew with some persistence and perseverance, he'd be banished from there, too.
Letting her go, I rested my forehead on hers and looked into her eyes, "Wherever you put my things, I am perfectly fine with. I just feel bad for you having to arrange everything."
She smiled up at me. "Don't be, Niall. I was happy to do it. Kept me busy while you were gone. Plus, I didn't have your voice in my ear telling me I was handling your things wrong. Especially your awards. See what I did with them," she pointed as she giggled.
Looking towards the bookshelf we had built in I saw what she had done. "Bookends? Really?" I laughed.
She giggled as I felt her loop her arms around me from behind. "I've missed you." I felt her nuzzle her face into my back, kissing it.
Turning to face her, my arms draped around her shoulders, I looked down at her, "No way you missed me more than I missed you."
She scrunched her eyes at me, "Missing each other is not a competition, Niall. And, if it was, you'd lose."
She stood up on her toes, rubbed her nose against mine before placing her lips on mine. "Welcome home, baby."
