Three months.
I have been with S.H.I.E.L.D for three months now. Steve and I worked missions together for most of the time. We worked well together and Director Fury decided it would be more efficient to keep us paired up as opposed to separated. Even though a majority of my time is spent with Steve, I do go on undercover solo missions when need be.
In the three months that I have been with S.H.I.E.L.D, I have not once seen the redheaded assassin. Either I was leaving for a mission and she was coming back or she was leaving when I was returning. It was frustrating at times, because I wanted to see her. We haven't talked since Thor and Loki went back to Asgard.
I was actually on my way to find Director Fury on the bridge for a briefing. I was being assigned to a mission with another agent, however I didn't know who it was. Surprisingly, it wasn't Steve I was being paired with. From the little information I was given, the mission was an undercover mission to spy and take down a crime lord.
Arriving at the bridge on the Helicarrier, I spotted Director Fury near the large table I first sat at with the Avengers. No one else was there, so I assume the other agent was held up with something.
"Agent Desantos. Right on time. Take a seat." Fury gestured to the seats. I took a seat in the middle of the table, so I was across from him.
"Sorry I'm late, Director. There was a mishap I needed to take care of." A familiar voice said behind me.
I looked to the side to see her walking up and sitting beside me. Natasha. Was she the one I was going on this mission with? I fought the smile that threatened to appear on my face.
"Agent Romanoff. You remember Agent Desantos." Fury gestured to me.
She looked over at me and raised an eyebrow, "Agent?"
"Yes, Agent Desantos has been with us for about three months now. She's been with the Captain for most of the time." Fury explained. "That's why I've brought you two here. I have a mission for the both of you."
The table lit up with holograms of reports and pictures. I browsed the contents to get a better understanding of what we would be dealing with before Fury went into all the details.
"Angelo Russo. Mob boss. He is on our radar for selling and trading nuclear weapons that have the potential to level cities. We believe it may be some form of energy much like the Tesseract that is used to power these weapons, but we can't be sure. That's where you two come in. We need you to gather intel and when the time is right, to deal with these matters. Your job is to blend in and not draw attention to yourselves." Fury explained.
I looked over the file that listed everything we needed to make this mission successful. "We'll be in Italy for a month? Maybe two?" I asked.
"Yes. Your jet leaves in an hour. I suggest you get changed into civilian clothes and pack everything you need." Fury confirmed, before walking off.
Once Fury was gone, Natasha turned to me. "So you finally decided to join S.H.I.E.L.D. What changed your mind?"
"Ice cream." I answered. She raised a perfectly shaped eyebrow.
"Ice cream?" She questioned, confused.
"Long story. Went to get ice cream. Got in a fight. Decided to become an agent." I responded.
"I can't say I've heard that one before." She remarked. I shrugged.
"I guess we should go get ready then." I said getting up. Natasha got up as well and together we walked to the rooms we were assigned.
