A Run in the Park

"Steve!" I yelled, slamming his apartment door open and strolling in. The remote in his hand dropped rather quickly as I scared him with my obnoxiously loud voice.

"I'm allowed to go on missions now!" I yelled, flinging my arms up above my head and waving them around. A large smile was plastered on my face. I spoke with Fury this morning, right before I barged into Steve's apartment, who ok'd me to resume missions as long as I felt I was ready to come back.

"Sorry, did I scare you?" I asked, seeing Steve had a hand to his chest.

"No. No, of course not. I just wasn't expecting you." He replied, standing up from his seat on the couch.

"Mhm." I hummed. "How long have you been up?"

"Just a little while now. I was recommended some movies from one of the other neighbors. She showed me how to work this thing called a remote to the television." He said.

"It's five in the morning though?" I stated quizzically. He shrugged, not having any response.

"That's good that you can go on missions again. When is your first one?" He asked, changing the subject.

"I will be working with you again. So I go whenever you do." I stated.

"Okay. Since we are both up, do you want to go jogging?" He asked.

"You bet I do."

"On your left."

Apparently, we weren't the only ones going for a jog this morning. There was a darker skinned male that Steve decided to antagonize every time we passed him. Due to the fact that we are both super soldiers, it was quite easy to keep our stamina up and pass him.

"Uh-huh. On my left. Got it." He commented as we passed him.

We continued running around more until we were coming up behind him at the pond structure in front of the Washington D.C. needle pillar, or whatever it was called.

He must have heard our fast footsteps approaching, because without turning around he said, "Don't say it. Don't you say it."

"On your left." Steve said, jogging right past him with me at his side. I choked on a laugh that threatened to escape my mouth. The whole situation was hilarious and I wanted to stop running so I could take a moment to admire the context of the situation.

"Come on!" The male yelled and started to run faster after us.

This time I did laugh. I could hear the man getting farther away from us, but it was hard to miss the panting and groaning sounds that came from his mouth as he tried to keep up with us.

"Stop antagonizing the poor man." I scolded, playfully to Steve who let out a small laugh.

We continued running until we both decided to take a break. We slowed down to a walking pace and continued on walking until we got to a shaded area.

"Is that the same man?" I asked, seeing what I believed to be the person we kept passing. It was hard to see since this person was sitting on the ground behind a tree, which was blocking him from my view.

"Yup." Steve said, walking in his direction.

"Need a medic?" Steve called out.

The man on the ground laughed and said, "I need a new set of lungs. Dude, you guys just ran, like, thirteen miles in thirty minutes" He said in disbelief.

"I guess we got a late start." Steve said, turning to me.

"I know. We must be slacking off." I commented.

"Really? You two should be ashamed of yourselves." The man on the ground laughed and joked. "You should take another lap. Did you just take it? I assume you just took it."

I laughed at his response.

"What unit you with?" Steve asked, switching topics.

"58th Pararescue." The man answered. "But now I'm working down at the VA. Sam Wilson."

"Steve Rogers."

"Margot Desantos." Steve grabbed his hand, pulling him off the ground.

"I kind of put that together. At least for you, Mr. Rodgers. I apologize, but I'm not sure who you are." He said.

"Not many people do." I responded.

Sam turned back to Steve and said, "Must have freaked you out, coming home after the whole defrosting thing."

"It takes some getting used to." Steve sighed. "It's good to meet you, Sam."

"It's your bed, right?" Sam stopped us as we were about to leave.

"What's that?" Steve asked, confused.

"Your bed, it's too soft." Sam elaborated. "When I was over there, I'd sleep on the ground, use rock for pillows, like a caveman. Now I'm home, lying in my bed, and it's like..."

"Lying on a marshmallow." Steve finished. "Feel like I'm gonna sink right to the floor."

"How long?" Steve asked.

"Two tours." Sam replied. "You must miss the good old days, huh?"

"Well, things aren't so bad. Food's a lot better. We used to boil everything." He joked. "No polio is good. Internet, so helpful. I've been reading that a lot, trying to catch up."

"Marvin Gaye, 1972, Trouble Man soundtrack. Everything you missed jammed into one album." Sam suggested.

"I'll put it on the list." Steve replied, grabbing a small notebook from his pocket and jotting it down.

A beeping noise came from Steve's other pocket and he pulled out his phone, looking at it and then showing me.

MISSION ALERT.

EXTRACTION IMMINENT.

MEET AT THE CURB. :)

"All right, Sam, duty calls. Thanks for the run." Steve said. "If that's what you want to call running."

"Oh, that's how it is?" Sam retorted.

"Oh, that's how it is." Steve confirmed.

"Okay." Sam laughed before turning to me.

"Nice to meet you, Margot."

"Likewise, Sam."

"Any time you two want to stop by the VA, make me look awesome in front of the girl at the front desk, just let me know." Sam said.

"I'll keep it in mind." Steve said, backing up.

"Yeah."

A loud revving noise came up behind us and I turned to look at the two door car that pulled up. The window went down and revealed the face of the redhead master assassin who I haven't seen in a long time. Natasha.

"Hey, fellas. Lady. Either one of you know where the Smithsonian is? I'm here to pick up a fossil." She joked.

I laughed at her remark and shook my head before making my way over to the car and opening the passenger side door.

"That's hilarious." Steve said.

I quickly got into the back seat and pulled the front seat back for Steve to sit. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Sam squat down and look into the car.

"How you doing?" Sam asked Natasha with a flirty edge to his comment.

I glared at the man through the window, although he couldn't see it.

"Hey." Natasha responded.

I huffed, releasing a steam of hot breath from my mouth and crossed my arms over my chest. I could just barely see her glance at me through the rearview mirror, before she turned away.

"Can't run everywhere." Steve said to Sam.

"No you can't" Sam agreed.

Natasha then pulled away from the curb, quickly picking up speed as we headed to our destination.
