Helicarrier?

At the crack of dawn, I was up and already finished packing. It was only the necessities that I packed into a duffel bag. It wasn't like I had much to start out with. I didn't own much, considering I never knew when I would have to jump up and leave at a minute's notice.

At this point I was just sitting around waiting for SHIELD agents to arrive and whisk me away. I have no clue on what will happen from now on. Will I be a free woman? Will I be stuck in a cell after I finish helping them? Will I have a normal life?

The latter part is highly unlikely from where I stand, but I can't help but think of all the possibilities.

I don't know what this mission is or what they want me to help them find, but it must be a big deal if they are offering to wipe my entire record clean. There is so much bloodshed that my ledger is oozing red. It's soaked and I doubt it will ever be wiped completely.

I scanned my living room one last time. The bareness made it look uninhabitable; that the apartment was just for decoration. A couch, an unused box tv with a broken antenna, an ugly colored wooden coffee table, and an old end table that looked like it would collapse any second. That must have been why the old owners threw it out. You know what they say: someone's trash is another person's treasure.

A knocking at my door made me pause my thoughts and I made my way over to it to look out the peephole. A man stood outside in all black. I opened the door as far as the chain lock would allow me and cautiously leaned into view of the man.

"Miss Desantos? I am Agent Trevors. I am here to escort you to S.H.I.E.L.D's base." He says.

I nod curtly, shutting the door and unlatching the chain before opening the door fully. I walked over the side of the couch, grabbed the duffel bag, and exited the tiny apartment I had been living in for the past eight months.

We made our way outside to a black SUV with tinted windows. I rolled my eyes at this as I opened the back door and slid into the seat, placing the duffel bag next to me and double checking that I had my trusty pythons strapped to my thighs and a knife in my boot.

A girl could never be too careful.

"So where are we going?" I asked trying to make conversation with Agent Trevors.

"Classified." Was his response.

"So I'm supposed to work for someone that won't give me any details about where I will be going? Sounds sketchy to me." I commented. He didn't respond.

"Why exactly do they need me and what am I supposed to be doing?" I asked.

"You will be notified once we arrive."

"Arrive where, Agent Trevors?"

"That is classified."

I was getting a little annoyed at the vague agent. He was making my head spin and not in a good way. I huffed, crossing my arms over my chest and looked out the window. He wasn't going to give me answers, so there was no point in wasting my breath.

I'm not sure how long we were driving before I rested my head on the window and closed my eyes, falling asleep on my way to my unknown destination.

A car door slamming shut was what woke me up from my slumber. We were at an open spaced runway with a jet of some sorts in front of the SUV. I grabbed my duffel bag and opened the car door, surveying the flying death trap in front of me.

Small spaces? Dangerous criminals? Heights? I'm fine with those, but flying? It makes me a little nauseous. It's not the falling or heights that make me uncomfortable. It's the fact that it is a big metal machine in the air working against gravity. A machine that could give out at any second.

Agent Trevors was walking up to the jet to talk to someone that I assumed was one of the pilots. They chatted as I walked up to them and when I reached them, Trevors ushered me onto the jet, following close behind me.

It was empty, minus four of us. The pilot made his way to the front with the other, while Trevors took a seat on the far right side close to the cockpit. I took a seat in the middle of the left side, not wanting to be too close or too far away.

As we took off, I grabbed the side of the seat half expecting to fall right back down to our deaths, but for a time we just kept going up until we leveled out.

The vague agent pulled out a black squared object, which I believe was a tablet, and once he was satisfied with getting it to work, stood up and handed the object to me. It was a tablet. A tablet containing files that stored information, pictures, and videos of different people.

"These are the people you will be working with. The objective is to regain a cubed object that harnesses energy called the Tesseract. It was stolen by a man, or god I should say, from another world. I suggest reading up on everything so you're not behind when we arrive at base." He explained to me.

I nodded, swiping the files. A god from another world? Surprisingly, it's not the weirdest thing I've heard. And he stole a bright blue... cube. This cube didn't look like much, but even I know looks can be deceiving.

Swiping each file to the left, I finally came up on the files containing the information on my "team mates".

Bruce Banner, AKA The Hulk, a massive green thing with major anger problems. His predicament reminds me of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Remind me not to anger that guy.

Tony Stark, AKA Iron Man, genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist. Enough said.

Clint Barton, AKA Hawkeye, master archer, assassin, agent of SHIELD. Not bad.

Steve Rogers. Yeah, I know all about this guy.

Oh look that's me.

The last slide caught my eye as a fiery redhead appeared on the screen. Wow. Natasha Romanoff. The Black Widow. Master assassin and beautiful enchantress.

"Miss Desantos, we are coming up to the Helicarrier now." Trevors said, coming up to me and taking the tablet away. I frowned, handing it over. Helicarrier?

"Helicarrier? Please tell me you're just flying me to a land base." I pleaded.

The corner of his lip turned up in a smirk, but he didn't say anything. Landing was not as nice as I would have liked. My stomach jumped to my throat as we finally settled down and everything stopped moving.

"Let's go." Trevors said, leading me out of the jet and into a very large hanger. There were people everywhere, walking around, moving large crates, directing.

"Wow." I said, breathlessly. For a metal contraption flying in the air, this was pretty cool. I've never been on something this amazing.

I have no idea where exactly I was being led, but it was down a bunch of corridors and I knew I was never going to remember my way around this place. We soon came to two double glass doors and walked through them.

In the center was a large table, surrounded by people and large windows overlooking the sky and clouds. It wasn't the beautiful scenery that caught my attention, though.

It was the fiery redhead I had seen in the briefing file walking in.

Two men followed close behind her. A muscular blond man and a slightly awkward gentleman with dark hair. Steve Rogers and Bruce Banner - if I remember correctly.

She had left them once they had entered the room, to allow them to explore and take in the sight. I turned around and opened my mouth to ask Trevors a question, but he was nowhere to be found. Dude didn't even say bye.

The Helicarrier was about to take off, at least that's what it sounded like based on the brunette standing in the middle of the room barking orders to those that sat in front of the computers. I moved towards the table, observing everything and eyeing the dark skinned man in the middle of the room.

That is Director Fury.

Fury turned around to myself and the two men, eyeing us.

"Gentlemen. Lady."
