Chapter 11: Powerless Against The Brotherhood

It was the next day.

Another new morning.

The kids had to leave to go back living at their mother's house, aka Jack's ex-wife, Karen. Scarlett and Henry were feeling visibly down, as they had to leave Megan.

Even though they had barely gotten to spend much time with her, the two siblings actually grown attached to the 'Unofficially 26 year-old' woman. Their mom was fetching them, waiting at the front door.

Jack and Karen had a quick chat about their life as such. They were each other ex's, but ever since after the divorce, they actually remained as quite close friends. She noticed how he had someone else living in his house with him, and in fact, a woman to her surprise.

It was unusual, as Jack was the introverted type who preferred keeping his private quarters to himself.

She then cheekily teased him about Megan, knowingly suspecting about how he likely has a special thing for his 'housemate'.

And obviously, he flatly denied the accusation.

Karen and Megan also shared a short exchange of words with each other.

"Ahh, Megan right?" Karen approached her.

"Yes, Megan Nightingale. Nice to meet you."

They shook each other hands.

"So i heard that you are living together with Jack?" Karen asked.

"Urmm...Yes- But don't worry, i'm just a guest staying at his house. There's nothing going on." Megan stuttered for a bit, feeling anxious and awkward.

She did not know why.

Maybe, due to the fact that she was talking to someone who's close to him, or used to sharing a romantic relation with him.

Or she did not want to cause any misunderstandings from happening. Wait what? 

"Loose up a bit, i'm not here to bite or anything. That's disappointing to hear you saying is nothing."

"Huh?" Megan furrowed her eyebrows.
What did she meant by that? 

"Anyway you are an author right?"

"Y-yes. I have published some books from here and there."

"I wanna say, i'm actually a fan of your books. I love your writing!!" Her eyes suddenly sparkled, catching Megan off guard.

That was an unexpected turn of events.

"Thank you...That really means a lot, Mam."

"Ohhh call me Karen. You know next time when we meet, i hope you can sign on one of your work copies that i have."

They spent a short more while talking. Karen was surprisingly very friendly and sweet, not that Megan had ever thought of her in the opposite terms, but her looks evokes a different vibe.

The grand and elegant kind, she looks visually stunning. Just her bright blazing hair colour that was similar to an orange poppy flower, screams 'HIGH STATUS'.

At least, that's what the first impression of her was like. Their interaction went pretty smoothly, but since it was their first time meeting each other, Megan was still like an awkward bean.

Trying her best to look well engaged in the conversation.

An introvert in it's stereotypical form.

Their series of interactions ended with Karen tapping on her shoulder, smilingly saying "Good luck with him."
