Yixing's POV
...
"Junmyeon, relax, will you?" Several months later with no new incidents and he was still so worked up over the thought of me leaving him here alone, whether it be a solo trip or if I had one of the kids. They did investigate the incident, but found nothing to prove it had been intentional or deliberately malicious. I just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. A freak accident. It could have been anyone.
"No Yixing," he retorted, his eyes narrowing and his voice wobbling ever so slightly. "I can't just relax. Do you know how difficult it is to watch you walk out the door by yourself? What if something happens and I'm not there to help you. Protect you. I can't lose you Xing. Not after everything we've been through." He huffed out a breath, and any existing anger in me fizzled and died. I sighed, raking my fingers through my hair.
"It's just for a couple days Jun," I tried to reason. His face contorted. I knew that look too well. "Please? I'll be fine. You know I will be. It's just a quick trip to China and back." He jutted his lower lip out, our daughter balanced on his left hip. She glanced between the two of us, babbling quietly in a language only she understood. "There's just some disputes that need my attention. That's all. I'm not going to be gone for very long at all. And the children will stay here with you so you'll know they will be safe."
"It's not good enough Xing!" he practically shouted, whirling around and pacing the length of his room before standing in front of me. "My children are important to me, yes. There's no doubt about that. I'd gladly give my life if it meant saving my babies. But you... I couldn't replace you of you asked me to. You mean everything in the world to me Zhang Yixing. So you see why it terrifies me? Because some day, whether it be sixty years from now or tomorrow, I'm not going to have you anymore. I don't want to rush that process." He remained fairly calm through the whole thing. No tears. But his fingers danced along ChaoXing's leg, meaning he was anxious after all.
"Ah Junnie," I replied, shaking my head. I felt my heart give a little pang. "You aren't getting rid of me that easily, remember? I'm here to stay. For a long, long time." Despite himself, his lips ticked up briefly. "I'll be..."
"Daddy, Papa?" Our conversation halted when another voice called out. The door to our room swung open and in walked DaeHyun, his blanket trailing behind him despite his insistence he didn't need it anymore. Not that either of us was in any particular rush to get rid of it. "What's going on?" he asked, placing his hands on hips. A Junnie mini me.
"Daddy and I are just talking," I explained. But still he pouted, glancing back and forth. "Papa is going to go back to China for a couple days," I continued. I saw no point in lying to DaeHyun. Or keeping him out of it. "To settle some things there. And you and baby sister are going to stay here with daddy, where we know you'll be nice and safe."
"Why aren't we all going?" he questioned. And it was like someone stuck an ice block in the room. I glanced up and meant Junmyeon's gaze. His eyes went wide like he hadn't thought of that either. I gulped. "Why aren't we going with you?" DaeHyun pressed. "We always travel between Korea and China."
"Um." I paused, stumped. Why weren't they going? Good question. "It's just safer if you stay here," I settled on at last. DaeHyun huffed, shaking his head.
"No," he said. "Admit it Papa. You want to go alone cause you feel smothered by daddy." Junmyeon went rigid, and my eyes widened. Not necessarily because of what he said, but because...it was kind of true. I loved my family. So, so much. But I'd spent so much time with all of them. It was good to get out from time to time. Not for long.
