k: king protea for a daring act
𑁍

it was 4:03 am when kihyun woke up. he was crying. he didn't think too long before he took his phone, jumped off his bed and ran out of his door. he didn't care about the rain or the cold weather. he didn't care about not bringing a jacket or not having put on warmer clothes. all he did care about was saving this boy. it felt too real. he had to be there. kihyun was running down the street as fast as he could. he couldn't seem to stop crying. his vision was blurry from both his tears and the rainwater coming into his eyes. it wasn't a long way from his home to the hangang bridge, so if he hurried, he could arrive in less than five minutes. and he did. kihyun didn't care if he got dizzy. he didn't care about the stinging pain he felt in his legs and side from how long and fast he's been running at this point. he didn't care about his hair getting wet or his clothes getting drained. he didn't care about the fact that he left his door open. the only thing that mattered to him in that very moment was saving him.
he knew he was real, it wasn't just a huge illusion. that couldn't be the case. that wouldn't happen.

and kihyun kept running. he ran down the street the boy was walking on. he followed the track of white and dark red petals that was left behind by the boy earlier. by now he wasn't even surprised anymore that they were actually there. it was only a dream to him at first, he wanted it to be nothing more, but deep, deep down he has known for a while now that there was something more to it. he may not be able to explain what was happening to him, but it was and kihyun was aware that he couldn't just outrun that. from the very first night he started dreaming about this boy, he felt something that connected them. and yeah, maybe he has been wrong all along, maybe he wasn't even real and kihyun had now completely lost his mind, but what if he was real? what if the boy did exist? what if he really did jump and was dying in this exact moment? kihyun literally saw it happening and he couldn't ignore that. because now, knowing that he could've saved him if he had just gone after him, but he did nothing instead- he could never live with that either. so he ran, he just ran.

but at one point he suddenly stopped. he saw a pair of white earphones laying on the side of the road he was running on. his earphones. and just a bit further, there was a bunch of petals all in one spot and there was blood too. it looked just like the way he had dreamed about. kihyun knew that it was his blood. he took the earphones, got up again and kept running. he didn't stop anymore until he finally arrived at the bridge. he ran towards the same spot where the boy had always climbed over. he was scared, he was so scared and the uneasy feeling in his chest wouldn't go away, but he didn't care. he was right and that meant that the boy was real and that kihyun now had the chance to save him.

kihyun looked down onto the river. right below where he was standing, he could see more petals settled on the water surface. the han river's flow was slowly taking them away. luckily it wasn't as strong. he tried to see better but the rain and the darkness didn't make that easier. if he looked close enough though, he could still recognize the shape of waves forming on the surface. but only in one spot. just like someone had just jumped in.

and once again, it didn't take long for kihyun to react. he dropped the earphones, quickly called the ambulance with his phone, telling them to come to the hangang bridge immediately and that someone just jumped. without giving further information about who he was or what was happening, he dropped his phone. acting fast, he ran back off the bridge and hurried down some sideway, through which you could reach the shore of the han river in a short time.
he took a deep breath and jumped in, not risking the chance of losing him by wasting time. the spot the boy was always standing at, it wasn't too close to the middle of the long bridge, so it wasn't that much of a long way to swim to where he had jumped in. yet, kihyun struggled.
it was nighttime, so it was dark. but that didn't stop kihyun from forcing his eyes open in the water, desperately looking for the boy. still, it was really hard to see and the anxiety and panic within himself rose but kihyun decided to not let this stop him from saving this person's life. it did take him a lot longer than expected but then he saw him. he saw the outlines of a body lifelessly sinking down to the very bottom of the river. kihyun himself already started feeling the immense lack of oxygen in his lungs, as he felt his vision darkening and his body going numb. black dots were slowly taking over his vision, but he wouldn't give in. he had to get to the boy. nothing would stop him now. he couldn't let him die, not like this. not if he now had the actual chance to save him. and he'd do everything he could to achieve that. he kept swimming, even though it seemed as if the body was moving further and further away, as if it was going to disappear in the distance, so far that kihyun would lose his chance to reach it, before he himself was going to pass out. but even that didn't stop him. that was when he started panicking even more, his own state worsening through to the strong loss of oxygen and the now existing chance of himself suffocating within the crashing waves above him. he hated this, but he was so close now. soon enough though, he got to where the body was located, now sinking faster, deeper to the ground.

the second kihyun caught up to him, he reached out his hand and grabbed the boy's hoodie's hood, dragging him up so far until he was able to pull him close enough, so that kihyun could wrap his left arm around his waist completely, holding him tightly and making sure to not let him go again. and now, he was hectically swimming up to the surface of the water, the fastest he could. kihyun himself was really close to losing his consciousness, causing his desperation to reach the surface to grow. now his vision was about to go black, when just before that, he reached the top and was now gasping for air. kihyun made it. he had used all the strength he had left to save the boy. this very boy he had no clue who he even was. some might think it's strange, that's it's ridiculous risking one's own life like this just to save someone you don't even know. but for kihyun, that's impossible thinking. and besides that, kihyun did know him. he just had to figure out how.

but yeah, in this case it was worth it. he was worth it.
