kihyun himself didn't even know why it was such a big deal for him to go back to goyang-si. his parents still lived there, but currently they were away. they have been traveling around over the past weeks and wouldn't come home any time soon. he just called them a few days ago and they told him that it would take them at least another month, until they'd actually come back. the brown haired didn't mind that though. his father had to move a lot due to his work and his mother, she wouldn't want to stay home alone for such a long time, so she always went with him after kihyun went to live on his own. as a travel-companian you could say. but she also was something close to his secretary, as to how she always helped him a lot with his work. and considering that, she was only working part time jobs before. she never had the time to dedicate her full self and her focus onto one of her own passions, so to keep their financial stability she did her best in supporting the family by working small jobs. actually, kihyun was quite glad that his parents could travel a bit by doing their job. they are a normal family and can live well with their income, but for luxury like travels or the extra high quality lifestyle just wasn't enough room. kihyun was still looking for the perfect future of his, so just like his mother he tried working some jobs here and there to keep upright on his own to not depend on his parents too much and for lots of family activities wasn't much time either after he had moved out. it was okay though, because being in seoul and building up his own life is working very well for him. he regularly visits his parents if they aren't traveling because of his dad's work, so all of them do live a content, good life. kihyun's brother has been away in japan for few years now, studying. his dream job required a huge amount of eduction in specific subjects, so because he's older than kihyun, he moved away years ago. he too, still contacts them whenever he has time and each vacation he gets, he comes home to spend some time with his family as well. you could consider kihyun's family as one everyone wishes to have, but it wasn't always like that and this exactly was the reason why the brown haired enjoyed his life how it was now, that at least until he started having these dreams. and to fully be able to normalize his life again, to make progress in his situation, this had to stop.

however, even though kihyun was keen on finding out more about this boy of his dreams and if he had ever actually played a role in his life, coming back to his hometown really wasn't something he wanted to do. he didn't know why exactly he wouldn't be able to bring himself to just go there. honestly, it was weird. it was like a deep feeling inside his chest that told him that it just wasn't right going back. it wasn't because of his parents. they could be really difficult sometimes, that's no secret, but it wasn't anything personal, nor that he had any problems with them or anyone there.
it was a nice place to live in, but kihyun just couldn't seem to be able to make himself feel comfortable by coming back. it was like an emotion, a rather bad feeling in his guts that built up, that held him back from returning home through the fear of uncovering something he had forgotten about. and he wouldn't want to find out the truth about what it was. honestly if he told anyone about that, he'd receive the funniest looks. he himself knew how insane it sounded, but what was he supposed to do? he has been experiencing such familiar feelings quite often lately, especially after the whole dream thing started and honestly, kihyun hated it. he hated it so much. it was stupid and he very well knew that. another thing he hated; the way this whole situation keeps making him look silly, like a little kid playing some kind of made up game, whereas in this case, it seemed a bit too real for kihyun's taste.
however, instead of coming back, he decided to call his parents again just to ask them a few things about his childhood, he may have forgotten by now. maybe they did know something? maybe they even knew something about that boy? it was worth a try. he did feel somewhat uneasy for asking because it's just weird and he didn't want to have his parents thinking he's gone crazy, but he did it anyway. he needed to find out what was happening to him and that as soon as possible.

"hi dad." kihyun said as soon as he heard his father pick up on the other line.

"hey, kihyun-ah. something wrong?"

"no, why would there be?" he was a bit confused as to why his father was asking like that.

"because you're calling me at three in the morning?" his father laughed slightly at kihyun's own reaction. he must've forgotten the time again.

"wha- oh my god! i'm so sorry, i didn't realize it was that late already." he scratched his neck in embarrassment until he realized his father wouldn't be able to see it anyways. "did i wake you up?"

"no, don't worry. i was just about to finish my work. good you decided to call me, though. otherwise you would've woken up your mother. she's already sleeping." his father said in a calm voice."but now son, is really everything okay? you seem a bit upset."

"yes, dad. don't worry. i just wanted to ask something. you have a few minutes?"

"uh okay. yeah sure, ask away. what's up?"

"do you remember my childhood well?" kihyun asked, now in a more serious voice.

"i guess so, but why's that question all of a sudden?" now it was his father, who sounded confused.

"you do remember minhyuk and hyunwoo, right? i know i have never had many friends, but was there anyone else? someone i was close to or something?" of course kihyun remembered his childhood. but it felt like some parts of it were missing. and he hoped that his father could maybe help him remember, but he in response didn't say anything for a while. it was like he was taken aback by the sudden question and it made kihyun feel even more uncomfortable.

"dad..? you still there?"

"oh um- yes, yes. i mean, you didn't have that many friends back then, kihyun-ah. i do remember minhyuk and hyunwoo. but i think- i think they were the only ones, you were actually close to. and after all of you had graduated, i don't think there were many friends left. well, and not long after you moved out, so..." his father sounded really nervous and so doubtful. kihyun wasn't dumb, he did notice that he surely didn't say everything he actually knew.

"are you sure?"

"pretty sure, yeah. and now, it's late kihyun. you should get some sleep. and i have to keep working too. we'll call again soon, okay?" his tone took a serious turn. not like he got angry or anything, but something did change.

"oh- um... okay, yeah. see you soon. 'til then, i guess. bye dad." and then he hung up.
