Demi's POV

I returned back to Kenzie after finishing the conversation with my mom. I know it's a huge surprise. I just know that everyone is going to be asking questions about it. "Are you done?" I ask Kenzie, who is sitting in her chair with a bowl of milk in front of her. She nods, and I take the bowl away. I had no idea what to do today. I didn't pick up any toys before I got Kenzie, but I dodn't want to take her out in public. It was still going to be a couple of days before all her stuff that I ordered came in. I didn't want to make her just watch TV all day, she'd probably get bored too quickly. I thought while looking at her. She stared at me, waiting for me to say something. Then I thought of something. I had a ton of baking supplies. We could have a day of baking! "Have you ever tried cake?" I asked, knowing it was a stupid question. She shook her head. "It's really good. Want to make one?" She shrugged, and I led her out of the dinning room and into the kitchen. I set her up on the counter, and she watched me while I grabbed everything that I needed out of the cabinets. I looked online for a chocolate cake recipe, and found one that looked easy enough. I also found an icing recipe. Making it without the already made cake mix would take longer, and I was trying to find a way to kill time until Kenzie's stuff was delivered. "Okay, this is what we need. Can you count or read?" I asked, already knowing the answer. She shook her head; I was right. "Okay, well I'll let you mix." After every ingredient I added, I gave the bowl to Kenzie so she could stir. I noticed that she looked over at the stove top a lot, but I didn't say anything about it. After the batter was all mixed, I let Kenzie lick the whisk. As soon as her tongue hit the chocolate goo, her eyes lit up. I giggled at her reaction. "Is it good?" I asked. She nodded and continued to lick the whisk. She licked everything off, not leaving anything. "I need to put this in  the oven now, want to help?" I asked. She nodded and hopped off the counter. She grabbed one end of the pan, while I held the other. I pointed to the racks. "Make sure not to touch these." She nodded her head and we put the cake in the oven. She closed the oven door and looked back up at me. "Ready to make icing?" I asked. She nodded.

"Does it taste good, too?" She asked. Those were the some of the only words she spoke all morning.

"Yeah, but it's really sweet," I said while lining up all the ingredients we needed. I made sure to make a lot of icing so she could have fun decorating. The oven beeped, causing Kenzie to jump a little while mixing the icing. "Don't worry, that's just saying that the cake is done." I opened the oven and stuck a toothpick into the cake. Yup, it was done. I brought it out, and Kenzie leaned over to see it. "We don't want to touch it right now, it's hot." I left the cake to cool off. "How's the icing coming?" She pointed her finger down in and looked up at me. "Go ahead, try it." She dipped her finger in and then put it in her mouth. She smiled. It was the happiest I had ever seen her. I grabbed decorating tools. I had a set as a gift from my latest birthday, and I hadn't had the chance to use them yet. I got everything set up, then touched the cake to see if it was still hot. It was cool enough to put icing on, so I brought it over to the anxious five-year-old. I showed her how to use the decorating bags, and I let her do whatever. She had fun just scribbling on the cake. We ate lunch, and she scribbled some more.  had made more than enough icing, so I just let her go crazy. She smiled up at me and pointed to the cake every time she drew something, and I would clap for her every time. It was fun, and it definitely kept her busy.

Short and sweet :)
