Chapter 10: The Deal Maker

(WARNING - SHIT GETS REAL IN THIS CHAPTER- pfff-)

Laurie's P.O.V

We stopped in front of a big rock formation that prevented us from going in the caves. Finally after what felt like one million years someone spoke up.

"Well, we won't get in if we keep staring at it.." Violet said getting off of the horse walking towards the formation. I walked towards it staring at the rocks and vines in our paths. It was almost as if the rocks were glowing a bright silver.

"Well maybe Varian can get it open.." I said looking back at Varian who pulled a vile out of his bag.

"Of course I can, anything scientific, I can unlock!" He said as he poured the vile onto the rocks. We all waited for something to happen. We were all disappointed to see... Nothing not even a reaction from the vile.

We all looked around.

"...That doesn't make sense.. This must be enchanted.. or cursed..." Varian said as he stared at the empty Vile in his hand.

"Well, how do we break a curse.. Or at least delay it long enough so we can be in and out... What do we know about this place...?" Violet said as she trailed off starting to think.

I stared at the rock formation and closed my eyes pressing my palm against it. It wasn't like we could pull the rocks away or anything because there were layers of rocks behind what we could see.

'Old illusions drift away... when hollow fears are beaten...'

"Old illusions drift away...-" I said softly as if I was talking to the rocks

"-...When hollow fears are beaten.." Varian and Violet both said their voices trailing off.

I saw Violet staring at me her eyes asking a question.

"... Obviously that line has to mean something we can't just throw it around without it meaning anything..!" Varian said starting to pace around.

"Alright, well.. 'Old Illusions Drift Away.', That has to be symbolic of the mountain... right?" Violet said placing her hand against a rock.

I thought about it. What did it mean by the illusions drifting away? What were Illusions about this place. The mountain of Illusions was always...

"Wait... I-I got it.." I said looking towards Varian and Violet. "Think about it, It's like some directions.. 'Old Illusions drift away..', We gotta let go." I said looking back towards the rocks.

"What do you mean by let go?" Varian asked confused.

...

"I mean, We've always been told the Mountain of Illusions was a beautiful place with people who could grant wishes. Like a personal heaven to those who enter. What if it wasn't... we gotta let go of all past assumptions of this place."

Varian and Violet both stared at me as If I lost my mind. Before Violet spoke up.

"I guess that makes sense... But what about the whole 'When hollow fears are beaten?'" Violet asked.

"I don't know Vi, That's the only part I can't make out, but whatever it is only then will the old Illusions drift away.."

We all stared in silence at the rocks. I drummed my fingers silently against my bow. I didn't understand what the line meant. We all stayed silent until Varian spoke up.

"Our fears, well our hollow fears, we gotta let them go. The fears we shouldn't fear because they won't happen... That's what it means.." Varian said.
