"Reject?" Roman flinched slightly as he nodded. Virgil just sat there in confusion with this curious yet concern glint in his eyes. "Roman... What do you mean by 'reject'?"
"There is a way for us to not be mates anymore." Virgil's eyes went wide as Roman forced a smile, though clearly filled with immense pain. "By rejecting me as your mate, you can cut our bond... and be done with me."
"Roman..."
"I know." Roman frowned as he hugged himself a bit feeling all too cold over the idea of rejection. "I know what you said. I just wanted you to know that there was that option. I wanted you to be able to see every path you can choose. You don't HAVE to be stuck with me if you don't want to be. You CAN choose to reject me and..." Roman's eyes darkened as he smiled sadly. "...and that's alright."
"Roman say I chose it..." Again Roman flinched, one that Virgil caught, and the other tensed up in concern. "What happens to you?"
"Don't worry about me, Love." Virgil's eyes narrowed challengingly as Roman shifted back. "Seriously, don't worry about me. All that matters is that you are happy."
"Roman, what happens to you..."
"Virgil, stop worrying." Roman snapped with a pained whine making Virgil's eyes go wide. "All I care about is you and what you want. If you want to reject me then that is your choice. It doesn't matter what it does to me... only that you are ok in the end."
"But something DOES happen to you..." Roman whimpered feeling the pressure Virgil gave off. "You can't keep that from me, Roman! What would happen if I reject you?"
"Nothing!" Roman growled as Virgil only glared him down. "Nothing... Nothing to you anyway."
"What do you mean?" Roman sighed as he smiled and shrugged. "Roman..."
"I'm never going to reject you, Virgil. I'm never going to accept the rejection. I won't stop you from trying if it's what you want but... I love you. I just... I've already fallen deeply for my mate and I don't think I ever could just... willingly let that go unless you asked me to." Virgil's eyes filled with tears as Roman stared off at nothing. "I've always said since I was little... that should my mate ever need it... I would go through a blazing inferno to save them." Roman's eyes narrowed as he shook a bit. "Even if that means saving you from 'us'."
"Roman... would it hurt you?"
"Worse than death." Virgil's eyes shot wide as Roman just held that off and blank look. "Virgil... If you reject me you're literally ripping a part of my soul right from me... tearing it to shreds as you walk off unscathed. It will hurt far worse than any pain any might ever endure... and... and I very well might not come out of it fine and dandy... if at all."
"Than why the fuck would you even offer it..."
"Because you deserve the opportunity to make that choice, Virgil." Virgil clammed up at the serious look Roman gave him. "I made mine. I chose you. I chose you and I fell for you... but you shouldn't be stuck with me simply because you don't want me to get hurt. I want you to be happy."
"Roman..."
"Virgil, I love you." Virgil melted as Roman gently brushed his hand over the other cheek. "You're happiness and wellbeing is ALL that matters to me. I'd do anything... go through anything... if it means protecting you." His hand slowly went to Virgil's neck making the smaller breath hitch before he tensed and took Roman's hand in his.
"Roman? If I can just... reject this then..." Roman's eyes narrowed as Virgil shook slightly. "How do you even know were meant to be then? What if... What if I reject you accidentally? What if I..."
"Silly, Virgil." Roman chuckled as he pulled the other in and smiled as Virgil relaxed in his arms. "Rejection... it isn't something you can just do accidentally but... Hun, when a pairing find each other they usually do what's called marking." Virgil's eyes narrowed in confusion as Roman grumbled slightly, that feeling of fear crawling down his back. Roman still felt like he shouldn't be mentioning it but he knew Virgil needed to know.
"Marking?"
"Yeah." Roman swallowed his anxiety as he took a deep breath and continued. "Marking is when a wolf will bite their mate to 'claim' them as their lover. It's how a pairing will completely their bond. Once the bond is complete... you can't 'reject' the other. Your scents will mix and it tells other wolves that you two belong together. Although... From what I heard the one that gets bitten ends up asleep for a while... My father said it had something to do with the energy needed to form the full extent of the bond. I'm not completely sure." Virgil frowned as he slowly pushed himself up with glowing purple eyes making Roman's wolf twitch in him with need.
"So... This marking thing... Is how you 'claim' your mate?"
"In a way, yes. A pairing will know their mates by the scent and their reaction to it but... The act of marking will complete the bond. Until then..." It's torture. "It's up to them."
"Oh." Virgil sighed as he sat there for a second before tears slowly started to spill from his eyes.
"Hey, no... Hun, don't cry. What's wrong?" Virgil whimpered as he pushed his knees up into his chest. "Virgil?"
"I don't want you to get hurt." Roman's eyes went wide as Virgil started to shake. "I don't want to lose you." Roman gently place his hand to Virgil's jaw, lifting his head just enough to stare into those gorgeous lavender eyes. "I don't want to lose 'us'."
"I don't either." Roman leaned in till their noses were touch before pausing and giving the other this gentle look, a question in his eyes. Virgil only nodded softly before Roman captured his lips in his. A deep powerfully emotional kiss that took them both under fast. Roman growled softly with a damn near desperate purr, wrapping his arms around his mate as he shifted enough till he was over the top of the other. His arm was holding Virgil's waist securely as his lips ghosted Virgil's jawline. Virgil let out a sultry breath as Roman's eyes flash a bright red. Virgil's back arched at the feeling of Roman's lip's trailing down his neck until...
"When you're finally mine..." Virgil froze completely like ice, the moment Roman's lips brushed the crook of his neck. All he could see was Colt... and no matter how much his body ached... how much his wolf pleaded with him to let Roman do whatever it was, in that moment, it wasn't Roman. He couldn't even whimper as his mind flooded with that need to get away. Colt wasn't supposed to do it. He knew Colt wasn't supposed to. He was right back there again writhing in pain as that wolf tried to force him into to... whatever it was. He couldn't think. He knew he knew what was happening. Roman had told him. He also knew Roman wasn't entirely of right mind. He could feel Roman's wolf reacting just as strongly as his own but... His mind only saw Colt. And he just had to get away from Colt... Panic flooded in systems before he even had time to scream. "...I'll teach you what it means to belong to your alpha."
"NO!" Virgil yelled out making Roman snap back to his senses. His eyes turned back to their normal green as he brushed Virgil's hair back seeing the pure terror in his love's eyes. He could feel it. That harrowing unabated fear that just rolled right off his mate. Virgil's eyes were dazed as dull and Roman didn't know how to help. He jumped up running away slightly, wanting to get the others, but his wolf lurched at the idea of leaving his mate for only one second. He panicked unsure of how to help. He did the only thing he could think of. His eyes flashed red as his aura flared and he yelled out.
"Janus! Remus! Get in here NOW!"
