California was in the past.

School carried on. Tests, homework, classes. But the year was coming to an end, which meant one thing to the couples at Ericson's.

Prom.

Louis stepped outside, the smell of rain still traced in the air after the morning shower. He looked around at the students leaving for the day. In front of him, he spotted Clementine and Violet. They were waiting for him by his car with their backs to him and discussing something casually. He stalled, slowing down his pace as he listened.

"I can't believe the year is almost over." Violet mused.

"Are you and Minnie going to prom together?" Clem asked, tugging on her backpack straps.

"Yeah, I was gonna ask her sometime next week." The blonde looked at her suggestively.
"How about you and Louis?"

"I mean, we are obviously going together but I..." She trailed off. "I want him to ask me. Y'know, the sign, the flowers, everything. The dance is really important to me, I want it done right."

Louis smiled and ran up to hug his girlfriend from behind. She giggled and leaned into his embrace.

"Ready to go?" He questioned. The girls nodded and got situated in the seats, Clem gripping his hand once he sat down. Louis couldn't stop beaming at this point.

He remembered how heartbroken he felt when Oliver asked Clementine to homecoming as he pulled out his own proposal. It was devastating and left him feeling inferior and depressed for days.

But now, there was nothing in his way. And he was finally going to do it right.

"He isn't coming anytime soon." Violet shoved Clementine, obviously referring to Louis. He had invited not only them, but also Marlon to lunch that afternoon, and as the three of them stood in the crowded student square, he was nowhere to be found.

"I'm sure Lou is on his way." Marlon spoke up. "He might just be... held up." He was aware of Louis's plan, biting back a smirk to not spoil anything.

"Well if he takes any longer, he's paying." Violet and Marlon bickered back and forth, causing Clem to chuckle. She turned to look for her boyfriend once again and gasped when she saw what was suddenly before her.

Louis was standing behind her, holding a large sign accompanied by a huge orange bouquet.

"I can't concentrate when my peelings for you are so strong. Orange you glad I'm asking you to prom?" It read.

"Do you like it, Clemmy?" He inquired, smiling wide with a nervous excitement

A crowd began forming around them, cooing over the couple as Clem was trying to find words.

"So, what-" Before he could finish, she broke into a wide grin.

"Of course, dork!"

They embraced tightly, peers and friends around them applauding. Happiness was buzzing throughout her body and she couldn't contain herself.
