Selena's Pov

After the tense silence, suddenly protests broke all over the meeting room. Sad, dissatisfied, confuse and angry protests. My best friend and biggest back-up, Robin was smirking at me, waiting for me to control the flow of their resentment.

'Reverse Psychology' was all he mindlinked me, before suddenly announcing about Kyle and that we had decided to immediately include him in the pack as the second beta, since he was my mate.

"That's absurd"

"He doesn't deserve it!"

"That kid can't even defeat a warrior"

"Alpha! Did you agree to this?"

"Alpha, please reconsider!"

Kyle was breathing harshly beside me, like a anxious ball of energy trying to stay calm. I sighed this was just the start of the commotion it was going to get a lot worst, direct protests are much better than silent conspiracies.

I moved my chair closer and slipped my hand in Kyle's under the table.  I couldn't change my cold stone face to smile, or show them how much attached I already was to my mate............. well, I hope that would provide him some comfort. Kyle looked up at me and smiled with a pink hue on his cheeks. Under everyone's eyes I couldn't return it but I nodded back.

"An omega? Directly to beta position?"

"A incapable second beta would ruin the pack"

Many of level two warriors looked at Robin and me with silent cold, forelone faces. Some of them had aimed for the co-ordinate beta position, they were concerned for the safety and compatibility of new Beta. It is possible for a pack to have two coordinating  betas without them being mates.

Alpha female or Luna has to be Alpha's mate to prevent the challenge in authority while taking the final decision, but there can be necessary changes in other positions. It was a subjective matter differing from pack to pack, specially since our pack didn't follow the standard set of rules by the council, we had much more room for changes.

"Didn't she get offers from two Alphas for becoming a Luna?" that was a silent whisper from Mrs.Betham, one of our Warrior's mates. She got many glares from people around, I rolled my eyes, can't really blame the women, she was attending the discussion first time in her husband's absence.

She shrunk back under the hostile gaze of several warriors.  You never talk about sending off the strongest people of your pack when in a real meeting, this was not gossip but a  real discussion.

I could understand their resentment, how would you feel when due to the appearance of a sudden newbie, you are threatened to give up the highest vacant position of pack just because he has the 'mate' card.

Kyle wasn't ready to be a Beta, I knew the fact. He was too weak to stand against most of our trained warriors. Normally a Beta-female could concentrate more on training and administration, but no one could include him as a mild unassertive beta, if he wanted to be here he'll need to prove them that he was capable of taking pressure, subduing warriors  and.................... killing when required.

We all had rebuild the pack from ashes.  I could understand their feeling of resentment and hostility at a sudden forced decision, the uproar of disagreement was expected.  But just because I understand doesn't mean I like it.

Delta Bismark , the oldest out of four in-charge deltas cleared his throat, the whispers and protests gradually died down, "Beta, if you feel like you need the co-ordinating beta position to be fulfilled by your mate, then I propose you take up my son as your mate."

Trever, Delta Bismark's son looked up at his father with wide scared eyes shaking his head. I almost felt like laughing at Trever's expressions.

Kyle squeezed my hand tightly as if afraid I could withdraw it from his hold anytime, I squeezed back in assurance.

"It's a bold proposal Delta, asking me to abandoned my true mate for someone so worthless" my controlled voice answered back. An insult after direct rejection. Ouch! that must've hurt, Trever was the second bully with Banny Castor that day.

Delta Chase coughed at us, breaking the glare Delta Bismark was sending me from across  the room "Beta Selena, what we meant to say was you could take up another capable...... acceptable person from our pack as your mate"

Clara growled angrily in my head at both the Delta's words. She was already too possessive to let Kyle go.  I couldn't imagine what would happen to the poor boy, if I wasn't the mediator to control Clara's actions.

"I know what you meant Delta, but I have no desire to reject my true mate" that was a straight-forward answer I could give.

"Then we will have no chose but to start a counter proposal, after all the presence of a incompatible Beta mate will affect all of us" Delta Bismark remarked, with his cold glare.

Erwin interfered before that old geezer  could start the counter proposal "Let's not be hasty! We still have many other alternatives, the terms can be still brought to negotiation table"

That calmed everyone, a sudden counter proposal could increase the scale of dispute between two members .

My father, the former Beta and Alpha Robin had still not interfered, they both were sitting quietly on their chairs observing the arguments. Oh how much I love being there on the sidelines, instead of in the center of attention defending my proposal.

Wait....... wasn't Robin the one to bring this up? Something about 'Reverse Psychology'. We had decided just to tell them about a new pack member, instead he announced about Kyle being my mate and co-ordinating Beta............ Really a supporting best-friend isn't he?.........haha..... I feel more like to kill him sometimes.
