Piper's POV

My parents are first class, strict, OCD, self-absorbed snobs. Some days I pray that I am nothing like them. At all.

Fortunately, I won't be alive for anyone to see if I am. I already planned the date that I want to die.

March 17th.

One whole week before my birthday. It makes the date a hell of a lot more depressing.

That's okay.

I only have to wait about seven more months. Yes, I'm just starting my senior year of highschool.

I just want to live a part of my senior year before I die. I even get to fake my applications for college. If I get one year to live freely it would be great, because it wouldn't effect me in the long run.

Chemistry.

God do I hate it.

I get the only chemistry teacher who smells, has no hair, gives tons of homework, and gives extremely hard tests and quizzes. Mr. Doyle.

This will be a fun year, I think sarcastically to myself.

"I will be calling out your lab partners for this year. You may not switch partners, and you will be with him or her for the whole year."

I groaned inwardly and rolled my eyes.

"John L. with Samantha K.
Haylee P. with Thomas M.
Sarah F. with Bryan A.
Liam W. with Myra H.
Candice T. with Will P.
Piper F. with Carter H."

I pursed my lips. Carter Hays?
I looked over at him and my breath hitched. His messy black hair was perfect and I could stare at is startling grey eyes forever. He was one of those guys when a girl could look at him and literally drool.

Unfortunately for the entire class of girls, he was so mysterious and never took a second glance at any of the girls.

"Ok everyone," Mr. Doyle announced. "Now that I have assigned your seats and lab partners get together and follow the instructions on the board. You have the whole period."

I sat down next to Carter. "Hi," I said lamely.

"Hey." He answered, not even bothering to look my way as he was starting the lab. His voice was deep.

"Can you read me the instructions on the board?" He asked.

"Okay . . . Uh, you have to add the sodium hydroxide to the water."

That's how we spoke for the rest of the class. Cold and monotone.

"Okay students," Mr. Doyle said. "Your homework is to do the project on the board with your lab partner. It's due next week."

The bell rang and I saw Carter leaving.

"Carter, wait!" I shouted after him.

He turned around. "What?" he asked a bit harshly. I shrank back at his tone.

His eyes softened a little.

Did I do something wrong to him?

"I-I was w-wondering if we could do our project tonight." I stuttered.

"Uh," He scratched the nape of his neck. "Your place? My house is sort of a mess right now."

"Um, sure." I responded, suddenly taking interest in my shoes.

"Four o'clock?"

I nodded. "Okay."
