Chapter 3: First day as a new student in an old school 2The morning classes were not bad apart from the mockery I got from the students. I didn't have any other class with Nicole nor her boyfriend that looked exactly like Nate.
I didn't see any of my friends except for the one that looked like Nate.
Maybe he is Nate's twin brother I thought. But as far as I could remember Nate didn't have any brother, only a younger sister. Maybe it's his cousin but he doesn't have any cousin living in this state. All possible thoughts ran through my head.
Some of the teachers recognized me but none of the students recognized me or acted like they recognized me.
I was so nervous when lunch time came. I was finally going to see my friends. I dumped my books in my locker and headed to the cafeteria. Grabbing my tray of lunch, I took a look at the cafeteria. It really didn't change. The tables were organized neatly. Mrs Thomas was serving the food. Everyone was with their group of friends in their table. I could see the nerds in one table with books all over the table. The footballers, the cheerleaders, I saw the blonde from my Math class with her boyfriend that looked so much like nate. Something caught my eyes that made me stop dead in my tracks. Alicia was sitting with them. As in Alicia my best friend since middle school. She was the girl in skirt this morning. I rubbed my eyes. This couldn't be happening. It's not true maybe I am day dreaming. She never wore skirt. I saw it clearly, she was seated with them, crossed leg texting on her phone.
I took a deep breath and headed to the direction of their table. I caught Alicia's eyes when she took them off her phone. I expected her to run and give me a bone crushing hug but to my surprise she just gave me a fake smile and turned her face to the blonde girl. Is this how to welcome your best friend?. What the hell is wrong with my best friends these days? I asked myself.
I walked slowly to their direction. I was centimeters àway them when I overheard their conversation.
"So do you know that dirty girl, Alicia?" Nicole asked.
"Which one?"
" That one with that ugly face and dirty clothes, the one you just smiled to," Nicole explained.
"Ohhh you mean that ugly girl well yeah," Alicia answered.
My best friend called me ugly . How could she? Deciding to hear what they were saying, I continued walking.
I felt that I needed to hear what they were about to say, It would help me in choosing friends. I closed my face with my lunch tray and sat on the table behind them.
"So were you two friends?" Nicole asked Alicia.
Alicia made a face that looked like she was about to throw up.
"What? Me friend with that thing. I mean just look at her. GOD forbid,"My heart broke when I heard these words. I saw one tear rolled down my cheeks and quickly wiped it.
"Actually we were. We were quiet good friends before she left to her grandparents farm," Alicia said.
"Well she belongs there. She really looks like a farm girl," Nicole said with a giggle then motioned for Alicia to continue.
"Yeah," Alicia added laughing.
"She is a disgrace to her family. If you see her brother ohh my gosh he's so hot,"
"Wait," Nicole gestured for Alicia to stop talking her hands.
"So are you telling me you befriend her so that you will be close to her brother?" She asked.
" Well kind of, " Alicia replied with another giggle.
"We are now quiet close," she said gesturing to the phone in her hands.
I was speechless. That was so harsh. By that time tears were pouring down freely. I tried my best not to sniff, so as not to make any noise. I was so tired, I couldn't take it anymore. I couldn't believe it. My best friend used me for my brother. I stood up to leave, I carried my lunch tray in my hands and took a deep breath. You know when you are going to walk pass somebody you hate you try to act as cool as possible.
I gathered all my courage. Nicole stuck her foot in the last minute which made me and my lunch fall down. My face was inside my lunch tray, Spegetti was all over my hair, the stew made a red stain on my shirt and a lettuce got stuck inside my ear.
"I am so sorry. Are you okay?," Nicole's asked with a fake smile.
" I am fine," I replied cleaning my clothes.
"Are sure because you look like you're crying. Maybe that's what prevented you from seeing my leg," Nicole said loudly so that the whole cafeteria could hear it. And the whole cafeteria bursted out laughing. I saw Alicia laughing too while texting in her phone. I couldn't take it anymore. I ran out of the cafeteria and into the toilet. And there I cried my eyes out.
