Chapter 12

Recap

I gave a quick glance at Zachary and he seemed oblivious to my internal war. He was just focused on getting back to Lucy, so we could all go eat like the happy group we were.
I, on the other hand (No pun intended. Well maybe), put my stare back at our locked hands.
Should I keep holding it?
Should I squeeze it?
Should I let it go?
Should I make a Frozen reference out of that?
Finally, I took a deep breath and made my choice.

Now

I let it go. His hand, I mean, not my frozen icy powers.

Slowly, I tore my hand away from his, trying to keep my impression blank as I did. He came to a sudden halt the moment we lost touch, causing me to crash into a wall a.k.a. his back.

"Ow, that hurt," I whined, massaging my poor face.

"Why'd you stop?" I asked, and I saw him tense up at the question. He didn't answer. Just stood there, deep in thought, and I wondered if this confirmed my suspicions.

Were those feelings still there? No, they couldn't be. We were just friends now.

"Well?" I asked, poking his stomach as if he was one of those toys that talked when their tummies were pressed.

"I saw this episode of Spongebob, when Squidward became handsome when they hit his face. I wanted to give it a try," he lied shrugging, but I wasn't convinced by his extremely well thought out excuse. It was easy to know when he lied. He usually clenched his fist when he did. That was his tell, but I wouldn't tell him I knew.

"So you stopped because you wanted to test out a theory, which was based on a kiddie show?" I asked doubtful, raising a questioning eyebrow.

"Hey, its a very good show! It has great ratings!" he insisted, backing up his excuse.

"Whatever. Next time use your own face. I'll even find you the perfect door so you can do it," I answered, giving up.

I had my own theory. Maybe if I acted like I didn't notice anything, then there wouldn't be anything to notice. I just didn't want the awkwardness between us.

"There's no need for that. My face is already sexy. Don't need to be any more. It would cause riots if I went to another level higher of sexiness," he said, and I barely controlled myself from falling to the floor laughing.

"Yeah, sure. Whatever helps you sleep at night," I said sarcasticall, still trying to hold in my laughter.

"I am sexy! And I'll prove it to you!" he shouted, causing a couple of students to turn around and stare at us. That was if they weren't already. Zachary started, walking again towards Lucy who was already waiting for us in a lunch booth. In her hands were two hotdogs.

"What took you guys so long?" she asked, when we got to the booth.

"Do you think I'm hot?" Zachary asked instead of answering her question.

"W-what?" Lucy asked shocked and she almost dropped one of the hotdogs.

I took the hotdogs out her shaky hands and held them close to me.
My babies... Momma's gonna protect you guys. Silly Aunt Lucy almost dropped you guys when she got nervous by the Zachary's question.
