"Whoever you are, go away." The voice of the young boy was strained, resistant.

The other boy scoffed, rolling his eyes. "Yeah, not going to happen. Why are you up here?" He placed a foot of the ledge and leaned over. Peering at the wet world below. Cars rushing by, water splashing on the sidewalks, and lights covering the concrete prison of a city in false daylight.

The boy next to him pulled away, balancing on the ledge with practised precision. He didn't look up at the stranger. "Avoiding," he said. Still staring down, the boy shook his curly hair into his face.

"What are you avoiding?" Though he knew he was likely pushing the boy, he didn't really care.

The boy pulled in his legs closer. "Humanity."

His leg fell from the ledge back onto the ground. Turning around, he sat on the ledge, his boots repeatedly hitting its inner wall. "Why?"

"Because it sucks." He tore his eyes from the ground below to the other boy who kept annoying him. "Why do you want to know?"

The brown-haired boy shrugged, staring up at the sky. "Seems like you need someone to talk to right now." He turned, locking eyes with the quiet boy. His green eyes locked with the other boy's purple ones. He whispered out a small, "Oh."

The other boy looked back down. "Yeah, I'm a freak."

"I never said that. I'm just a little surprised." He stared at the boy. "They're gorgeous, you know. You're eyes I mean. It's a rare mutation, but it doesn't make you a freak anymore than my eyes make me a freak. If anything, it makes you cooler."

The other boy let out a hearty laugh, his head falling back. "That's funny. But thanks for trying."

"I'm serious," the boy said, gently hitting his arm.

"So, your name is Sirius?"

He shook his head, laughing. "What? No. My name's Peter Pan. Most people call me Pan." He smiled. "What about you? What's your name?"

"Y/N, but most people call me a freak."

"Well, most people are dicks." Pan offered his hand. "It's nice to meet you, Y/N."

He laughed and took Pan's hand, shaking it. "It's nice to meet you, too."
