Months after Ryan's confession to Clayton, nothing changed between the both of them. Their relationship was exactly the same except now they were in a committed partnership together. Neither of them had been in an actual relationship with anybody besides each other.
Clayton had one or two flings before nothing ever serious. He knows what it's like to have crush on someone, but never his own feelings actually being reciprocated. So a relationship was a change of pace but a good one, one he could handle even though his boyfriend was always buried in something whether it was the humongous investigation, other cases, or business school. Clayton grew up with a loving family and a great environment so he was he felt secure, even though Ryan was busy, since he was never exposed to betrayal. It's not like much would change if he wasn't. Clayton spent his days sleeping because he had to work at night.
Ryan and Clayton were practically in a long distance relationship without the long distance. Even if they were magically able to spend time together, they couldn't show any physical affection.
Ryan was taking things very slow with Clayton especially since he was still coming into terms with himself. After months, he still has yet to kiss him just for the fact that he wanted to kiss him when he was completely comfortable, but he mainly hadn't because he was too anxious and was certain he'd mess it up and Clayton would never want to be with him again— although all signals were saying that that would not happen. Still, Ryan really liked Clayton and didn't want to do anything wrong.
Clayton snuck up through Ryan's window that he always kept open just for him. It was passed midnight hours and everyone was asleep in the Greene household. Clayton approached Ryan who was writing away at his desk. He wrapped his arms around his shoulder and placed a kiss on his cheek. He continued to leaned into the crock of Ryan's neck after his greeting.
"What are you doing up so late?" Clayton asked.
"A murder case, but they may be framing the suspect." Ryan explained. He combed his hand through his hair and sighed.
"Come on, it's time for bed." Clayton told him.
"But-"
"You can only help people if you are well yourself. I'm only going to leave once you fall asleep and not your fake sleeping like last time. And just a friendly reminder, the longer you take, the longer I can't go back to my job." Clayton calmly asserted.
"Yeah, yeah. I'm sleeping." Ryan got up and laid under his covers on his bed.
Clayton laid next to him and stroked Ryan's hair away from his face. Clayton looked at him with such a soft expression. Ryan had his eyes closed, trying to calm himself to sleep. Clayton spoke, "I really wish I could spend more time with you."
"It's hard to sleep when someone's talking to you." Ryan said.
"Is that sass? When did you become a sassy boy?" Clayton questioned in amusement. Ryan softly smiled at his comment since he was too tired to laugh.
"Sorry. I'm just cranky, I'm really tired. I haven't slept in like three days... I want to spend time with you too, we'll make it work out soon enough I know it."
Clayton chuckled, "Yeah... it'll happen eventually. I have to get going. Just sleep." He stood up.
"Without a kiss goodnight?" Ryan questioned.
"I can kiss you now?" Clayton asked.
"On the forehead." Ryan cooed, with his eyes closed and a playful smile plastered on his lips while he pointed to his head knowing that Clayton was expecting something more.
"Tch, you're a baby." Clayton said. He leaned down and placed a kiss on his boyfriend's forehead. "Good night."
