A/N~ The support I get from you guys is just awesome and I really appreciate my loyal readers that still come back even if I leave this hanging for awhile. I don't mean to but with work and family, it's hard to get the chapters done and out as fast. Without further ado, here is the next chapter :D
Chapter Twenty-one-
~Callum~
"Callum." The distaste he had for me could be picked up in his voice over the phone. "I thought we settled everything two weeks ago."
"Well appearantly fücking not," I growled angrily. Valen was silent after that so I took it as my cue to continue. "One of your leechs attacked my mate," I exploded viciously, all ideas of a civil conversation vanished. I had wanted to resolve this issue calmly to help keep the peace we had somehow formed. But then I'd think about what almost just happened and I would nearly lose it. The only thing stopping me from shifting was Adalyn sleeping on my bed, her heart monitor beeping steadily.
"You can't expect them not to feed, Callum. That's all that keeps them alive," Valen stated emotionlessly. "And while I am one of the oldest in my time, that does not mean I have control over every single one."
The more this prick opened his mouth, the more infuriated I got. The way he spoke made it so obvious that he honestly didn't care about what nearly happened to Adalyn. He made it sound like it wasn't his problem. But after the 'meeting' we just had, I completely disagreed. Valen was an ancient vampire, one of the oldest if not the actual oldest. None of his kind ever crossed him and for fear of becoming his target, they all followed any laws he laid out.
"We had an agreement," I spoke darkly with a rumble in my tone. "If I made sure that my shifters steared clear of your buisiness and any of your people, you would do the same!" I accused. "This isn't the first time that an accident has occured. Now you handle this or I will personally handle it my own way." Leaving my threat hanging, I ended the call and returned to my chair next to Adalyn.
When she had fainted, I knew she needed some sort of medical care. She's not a wolf like me so she wouldn't heal instantly but I didn't want her in a hospital. Doing all I could think to do, I brought her to my house where I paid for a docter and nurse to come stay until she got better. I made sure to find the best care for my mate and that they watched over her constantly. I was pretty sure I was driving the staff crazy. I was always badgering them to make sure she was okay. I hardly let them sleep and at the slightest sign of change in my mate's state, I ordered the doctors back in the room.
I knew I was overreacting but I honestly couldn't help it. After seeing her in that vermin's hands, pinned against that wall with his mouth wrapped around her neck; the thought had me clenching my fist so tight I heard my fingers crack. That filfth had his mouth on my mate, his jaws raised to clamp down on her neck. If anybody was going to mark her, it was going to be me. That thing had his fangs ready to bite down where only my mark belonged. He intended to change her and if I had been just a second too late, I would have lost her. I honestly didn't know what I would have done if Adalyn was turned. It wasn't something I wanted to think about.
If only she had listened to me! I told her how dangerous the streets can be and she deliberately ignored me. All she thought about was burglars and strange men, but I knew better. Unlike her, I am aware of what lurks in the dark. Now I also know I have to watch over Adalyn more closely. If I hadn't been so wrapped up with my security team, I would have noticed her leaving and put an end to it instantly. I don't think I would have to worry about this happening again though and hopefully she learned a lesson.
My head shot up when I heard her let out a sigh. I watched her every movement as she moved an arm up to scratch and pull at her IV. Quickly, I snatched up her hand and kissed the top soundly. I hoped this was her finally waking. It has been practically three days since the incident in the alley way and I was getting increasingly worried. The doctor told me not to worry and that her body just needed more time to heal but I couldn't help myself. I needed to see her awake, I wanted to hear her talkng to me again. I didn't care if she was still angry and all she wanted to do was shout at me, I just wanted to hear her voice.
