Chapter Fourteen~

~Adalyn~

Walking into one of the many buildings that was run by Aesir on Monday was more nerve racking than walking into Wolven Industries.

The woman at the front desk was fine but as we moved through the upper floors, everybody was constantly glaring at Callum. Some even gave me the same look but I assume because I accompanied him. Their eyes would follow us with a cold, calculating look.

I got the feeling we weren't wanted here.

The moment we stepped inside the building, Callum had gripped me close. His stature had tensed and he wouldn't allow me to move away. If I tried to discreetly step out of his grasp, I thought I would here a rumble before I was snatched back even more firmly. Callum obviously didn't like these people and I doubted he trusted them.

We had been sitting in a meeting room for only a few minutes before three people entered the room.

I recognized the first man immediately. Valen Elstrom stood at the head of the table wearing his dark, grey suit and tie. His pale blue irises landed on Callum before they slid to me and widened a smidgen. Not wanting to be rude, I stood and held my hand out in greeting. As I shook hands with the man, I could see just how tall he really was. He towered over my small stature easily. He had to be at least six feet tall and stood higher than Callum.

After a brief introduction, we all sat again.

The meeting was tensed and I felt like they were holding back. What I couldn't understand was, why would Callum bring me along if he couldn't discuss this in front of me?

I could feel the dislike they held to each other though. Neither wanted to compromise and it was obvious they were forcing themselves to do it for the better of their companies.

"Sir!"

I was the only one that flinched when a man ran burst through the door. Everybody else just narrowed their eyes at him.

The man kept his eyes on Valen as he said, "It's about Corinne."

That was all it took I guess for Mr. Elstrom to come to a stand. Not only was he tensed from before, now he looked pissed. "I apologize but I have to handle this." And then he was gone taking his two men with him.

When we were the only ones left in the room, Callum slouched in his seat with narrowed eyes. I could feel the aggravation and anger radiating off him so I placed my hand over his comfortingly. I wasn't used to initiating touching since I usually avoided it at all costs, so I assumed he would shake me off. I turned out to be wrong though when he turned his hand to hold onto mine.

"You okay?"

Callum's eyes never left mine as I watched his whole frame relax. His features softened as he looked at me. "Yes. Are you?"

I nodded but scowled a little. "It's obvious that you guys need to talk about something else and I feel like me being here is holding you two back. When Mr. Elstrom comes back, I'll step outside."

His mouth fell open and then closed as if he was at a loss for words. "I never said you had to leave," he settled on.

I rolled my eyes and huffed, irritation starting to come over me. "You didn't have to say it. I could feel it in the tension of the room," I accused. I pulled my hand away even though Callum tried to hold onto it.
