A/N~ Enjoy :D I am still sticking to finishing Darkness Enthralled first. It's Christmas though, so I decided to post a new chapter as a gift to all my Waiting for Better fans :)
Chapter Twenty-two-
~Adalyn~
"How long are you going to make me grovel?"
Once again, I ignored Callum's constant whining. He was trying to get me to speak to him but I stubbornly would turn the other way.
"It happened four days ago!" he exploded. "And I've apologized already!"
Still, I only rolled my eyes. He thought that him being a werewolf changed everything, that it distracted me from the real reason why I wandered out on my own that night. In all honesty, I had forgotten about it. But ironically enough it was Callum that reminded me of it.
"You're lucky he didn't take legal action," I snapped.
"He's lucky I didn't dislodge his head from his shoulders," he snarled. "He was on my property harassing my employee and my mate."
I sympathized with him to an extent but I couldn't help but be bothered. Jared's constant appearances had been annoying but all he really wanted to do was talk. And then now that I knew what Callum was, I saw just how unfair of a fight it really had been.
"You might've just aggravated the situation even more," I stated monotonously. "All he wanted was to speak to me. He would have eventually given up but now that you pulled that stunt, it's probably only going to get worse."
"I've spoken to my security team already. They know now to be on watch for him and if he so much as glances at my building, he is to be escorted away from the premises."
I shook my head at his overprotectiveness. "How did he even get through security the last time?"
Callum's eyes narrowed into slits at the thought. "He somehow convinced my receptionist that he was your fiancé and that you were expecting him." He spoke the words through gritted teeth as his fists clenched. Just the implication alone seemed to rile him up.
Slowly, I grabbed his hands with my own and forced his grip to loosen. There was no need for him to get bothered. He was the only one I cared about in that sense and saying I was to be married to Jared was laughable. The idea a year ago would have me serious but now, it was humorous.
"I should fire her," he growled lowly as he looked at where my hands touched him.
I instantly shook my head at the idea. I personally didn't know the woman but she was good at her job and very respectful. "She made a mistake Callum," I sighed.
"That one 'mistake' set off a chain of events where you almost died," he snapped irritably and his hands had tightened again and this time around mine.
I rolled my eyes. I wanted to tell him that I was clearly okay and that we could forget about it, but every time I downplayed the situation, it only made him angry.
Leisurely, I pulled his hands up and began placing gentle kisses along his knuckles. "Is she a wolf?"
Not only did my question throw him, but I think he was slightly distracted. "What?" He blinked rapidly and looked away from what I was doing to his hands.
Like I had wanted him to though, he untensed slightly allowing me to slide my lips against his palm. "Your secretary. Is. She. A wolf?" I enunciated each word slowly as I met his ever darkening gaze.
He slowly shook his head. "No." He seemed to be confused as to why I asked.
"If she's not a wolf, then she had no way of knowing that I was truly your mate and not engaged to someone else. And since we were both still at the building later than either of our usual shifts, it probably made his story even more believable."
