Chapter Seventeen
~Adalyn~
"What are you are you doing here?" It was hard to miss my acidic tone.
Jared's narrowed eyes and sly smirk never shook. "You didn't think you'd ever see me again, did you?" He raised an eyebrow at me humorously as he ignored my question completely.
His arrogant attitude only served to piss me off and I was tempted to slam the door in his face. "Why are you here," I snapped.
We must have been talking too loudly because at that moment Callum made his presence known.
"Babe, who's at the door," Callum yelled from the kitchen.
I felt all the color drain from my face. Opening the door to find this jerk had me forgetting I had Callum in the back room.
The opposite seemed to happen with Jared. His features turned a scorching red as his haughty demeanor vanished. Jared was angry, that much was obvious to me.
"You have a guy here?"
My mouth fell open as I floundered for an answer. This was the last thing I wanted; Callum and Jared having a confrontation.
Straightening up I began to ease the door shut. "You need to leave." And I wasn't saying this for just my benefit. I already had to stop Callum from beating up Jared earlier. I doubted it would be as easy this time when Jared was literally presenting himself.
Jared seemed too stuck on the fact that I actually had someone here, a man, in my apartment. That made it easy for me to just shut the door while he was distracted.
Before it closed all the way though, it was forced back open. I almost snapped at Jared again but then I realized he hadn't touched the door at all.
Callum did.
Taking one look at Callum's face and I knew I had to end this before it got too far. His features weren't stained a nasty red like Jared, but I could see how infuriated he was. His jaw was clenched and it looked like his nostrils were flaring.
Turning to face Jared, I pushed my back into Callum's chest. I was trying to slowly force him back but he wouldn't budge.
"Bye Jared." I had no doubt that my features looked pained.
"He's not going anywhere," Callum bit out.
"So you just have random guys at your place now?" Jared didn't even spare Callum a glance and I think it only ticked him off more.
I narrowed my eyes at that. He was insinuating that I slept with tons of men when the sad truth was I've only ever been with him. "It's none of your business what I do anymore."
"It is my business who my girlfriend spends time with," Jared shouted in angry breaths. "Especially if she's fücking every guy in the city of Manhattan!" Jared went to take a step towards me threateningly.
Callum did not like that one bit.
I was suddenly pushed behind Callum as he went chest to chest with Jared. I couldn't see Callum's face but I imagined it must have been pretty intimidating by the look on Jared's.
He had not been expecting Callum to step between us. He probably thought Callum would stay out of this so him and I could argue.
"This has nothing to do with you. Move." Though Jared's voice held strength and confidence, I could see him faltering in his gaze. He was nervous and didn't want to get into it with Callum.
