~Chapter 9~

Present time ~ Jugheads POV ~ 14 February 2019 ~ 5PM

Today it's Valentine's Day and I'm so excited since it's been three years Betty and I had a romantic date. I planned something for us and I'm sure she loves it.

She used to love going to drive in movies but the drive in was scrapped right before her fifteenth birthday, she was so sad about it.

I had hung up a big white blanket for tonight and rented a projector from a movie store.

After I did that I went home to my trailer and got changed. But first I texted Betty, saying I would pick her up at her house at 7 and said she needed to put on nice comfy clothes.

Myself put in some stretchy jeans with suspenders hanging down, my usual blue S shirt and ofcourse my beanie half over my hair. I locked the door behind me when after I was fully ready and started the motor of my truck.

It was still to early but my plan was to go to pop first and get us some food for before the movie.

I got greeted by Pop the second I entered the diner, "Hey Jughead what can I get you?" Pop asked.

"My usual and Betty's usual please"

Not even five minutes later I already had the whole meal since there was almost no one. "Thank you Pop, see you later", I said and paid him.

"Keep the change, it's for the fast service", I added as it was way to much money. Pop smiled big and waved at me as I left the diner with two food bags in my hands.

In the meantime it was time to pick up Betty. To my surprise she was already waiting on her driveway as I rode on it.

She was wearing jeans and a grey sweater with little harts on it with a light pink jacket over it.

"Hey gorgeous", I said as she opened the door on the passenger side.

"Hi loverboy", she smiled, only her smile made my heart melt already.

"I brought us pops", I said and handed her to two bags, she placed them on her lap.

"Oehh it's still warm", she exclaimed, smelling the just prepared burgers and fries.

"Yes, I hope you're craving pops because if not I can always get you something else"

"No Jug, I'm always craving Pops cheeseburgers", she answered. "Are we gonna eat in the car?"

"Umh no, I prepared something but it's a surprise", I told her, driving towards the spot where I had set up everything.

"Are we going to your trailer?"

"No"

"Sweetwater river?"

"No"

"umh-.."

"Betty it's a surprise I'm not telling you", I laughed as she pouted.

As soon as we arrived at the side of Fox Forrest, the white blanket was visible so I told Betty to close her eyes.

I chose this spot because the trees were good spaced and there was enough space to park the truck in front of the blanket so that we could watch from the car.

I parked the truck, with the back towards the blanket and looked at my girlfriend who still had her hands on her eyes. "Stay like this", I said and got out of the car.

I walked over to her side and opened the door for her, I told her to open her eyes but she couldn't see what the surprise was yet because it was behind her.

Her eyes widened and her mouth fell open when she saw everything I had set up and the blankets I put in de back of the truck. "Oh my god Jughead!" She exclaimed.

"I know you were upset when they trashed the drive in", I explained. "Come on let's eat our food before it's cold", I grabbed the bags from Betty's car seat.

We made ourself comfortable in de back of the truck with many blankets around us and ate our food.

"You really shouldn't have done all this for me", Betty said as soon she finished her burger and fries.

"Yes I did, because it felt like our conversation last time was a little uncomfortable and.....and the last thing I want is you to feel uncomfortable around me. I want you to know that I still love you, even more than before", I told her.

There was a silence and the only thing I could think about was shit was that to much? To overwhelming?

"It's okay if you don't love me that much anymore", I added.

"I still do but it's so weird because we haven't seen each other in so long....I'm sorry", Betty answered.

I grabbed her hand and caressed it with my thumb, "Don't be sorry. I don't blame you, I mean you probably had a good reason, right?"

"I don't wanna talk about it", she said quiet.

"I'm sorry I didn't mean to push you, just know that if you're ready you always can tell me okay?" She nodded her head and smiled a little.

"Shall we watch a movie? I have Dirty Dancing", I suggested.

"Sure"

I got out of the truck and started the film, the projector projected it on the blanket and it fitted perfectly.

Then I jumped back into the back of the truck and sat next to Betty who snuggled in my side.

I wrapped an arm around her, first I thought she maybe didn't liked it but when I removed my arm she gave me a look. A look that said she actually enjoyed being in my embrace.

Fast it became dark, pretty dark but that was not a problem for us it made it even more cozy.

"You wanna stay over at mine?" I asked when the movie ended and we were about to leave.

"I can't", she replied.

"Why, I thought things were good between us?", I asked confused.

"It is really, it's not your fault. I just need to be home"

I was confused but I respected her choice and she wanted to go home so I brought her home instead of started a arguing.
