"Good afternoon." Professor McGonagall says sharply from her desk to the students entering our last period of the day. "Good afternoon!" I say cheerfully, smiling as I take my seat at the front of the room between Dorcas and James.
Once the rest of the students stop trickling in, and everyone is in their seats, Professor McGonagall stands up. "Today we will be learning the Multicorfors spell. It is used to change the color and style of the target's outfit." Professor McGonagall lectured us about the Multicofors spell as I rush to take notes. With our N.E.W.T.S coming up so soon, I really need to pay attention in my classes.
After around 15 minutes of Professor McGonagall writing on the board and talking to us, she demonstrates the spell for us and tells us to split into groups of two and practice on each other. "If you need any help, you may come up to my desk and ask." Professor McGonagall announces before sitting down and reading our essays that we had turned in earlier this week.
"Partners?" James turns to me and grins.
"You're using this to show off your transfiguration skills aren't you?" I smile at him and cross my arms over my chest.
"Maybe I am, maybe I'm not." He laughs and takes out his wand. "Do you want to go first?" James offers.
"Sure!" I focus on what I want him to wear, like Professor McGonagall told us to. I raise my wand at James, "Multicorfors!"
There is a slight flash of light and I study and take notes of the changes I made to his uniform. His pants and white shirt stayed exactly the same, his cloak is gone, his gray Gryffindor sweater has been replaced with a black blazer that kind of matches his pants, and he's wearing a black tie.
"Wow, fancy." He smirks at me and studies his new outfit. "My turn." He hesitates, thinking for a moment and then raises his wand. "Multicorfors," He says confidently and a light flashes.
I look down at my new outfit and gasp. "James!"
"What, you don't like it?" He asks smugly. I don't answer, but hold out the light blue skirt of the ballgown I am now wearing. "Show off." I mutter while James laughs.
"Lily! It's beautiful!" Alice shrieks from across the room. I roll my eyes as Professor McGonagall walks over to James and I.
"Good job Mr. Potter. Ms. Evans." She nods to me and walks off.
"I did so bad." I huff and run my hand through my hair.
"No, you did great." James assures me as we take our seats at our desks.
"Ms. Evans. Mr. Potter. I can reverse the spell if you like, although that dress is beautiful." Professor McGonagall offers. We both nod and she pulls out her wand, muttering a spell that brings back our uniforms. We both thank her and I pull out my book as Professor McGonagall walks towards the door. I turn in my seat, studying the encounter between Professor McGonagall and Professor Flitwick standing right outside the classroom. Professor McGonagall nods solemnly to Professor Flitwick and walks to the front of the classroom. She stops right in front of my desk and sighs.
"Mr. Potter, can you escort Ms. Evans to Professor Dumbledore's office?" Professor McGonagall asks, a tear sliding down her cheek.
I give James a questioning look but he just shrugs. "Professor, are you all right?" I ask warily as tears continue falling from her face.
She shakes her head and beckons us to leave the room. What's happening? Why is she crying? And why are James and I going to Professor Dumbledore's office?
James and I pick up our books and bag and walk out of the classroom waving goodbye to our friends.
We close the door gently behind us. "What's this about?" James asks, staring out the window. "No idea. We should go." I loop my arm around his and walk up the stairs towards Professor Dumbledore's office. We stop right outside and Professor Dumbledore steps out to greet us and walk us in.
