The Sky, Some Centuries Ago, Undated

Nine

Angel of Life was given a task to decide the course of life for a newborn, whether they would live a good life, a difficult life or having some sickness and many other things. We are the opposite from Angel of Death, who only follow the Death Order. Though hard, not everyone could be blessed with good life, because the world needed balance. The decision, then, would lead The Fate Sector to write a story for the person, for as long as they live.

Aside from newborn, we could also decide who would be reborn or not, because not everyone wish to live another life again. Some even choose to end the given life, some choose to live their life badly, some mess up their fate due to temptation. Whatever The Sky had decided, there's always a volatile factor that was caused not only by the human themselves, but also the surrounding condition and situation of the ever changing rotating earth and human heart.

Human heart. Somehow, I was the only Angel that seemed to have feelings liked human. Nobody but The Master knew the answer to that, and nobody, not even me dare to ask, because to question it was equal to think there's some mistake on the process of my being. Every time I went down to earth, waiting for a new life to begin, I could see the pure happiness from the parent's faces. But, there's something more than happiness that was shining in their eyes, some sparks whenever they looked at each other, whenever they looked at the new life. What is that? I was curious.

The shine was not a reflection of light, didn't look like a twinkling star nor a shining diamond. But you really could detect it. I had tried to ask around, nobody could explain it well to me. I had felt every feeling there were, liked what humans were feeling, except that one. Areo tried to ask his friend, Zala, to help me. But, the Angel of Love still couldn't explain it well to me, I mean, she described the meaning and everything, but didn't have the answer when I asked How does it feel, inside their heart? Because, all Angel was a divine being without feeling, they did their job as ordered, as what was stated in The Guide Book.

I was clueless too. What is the feeling of falling in love, being in love, love ache, broken hearted? I could see their reaction and expression, but when I tried to feel it, I couldn't. After getting frustrated with the mounting curiosity, I went to the Water of Destiny again, to spend my free time watching human interactions on earth, my ultimate guide book so as to say, in term of dealing with my oddity of having a feeling. I stirred the water, and when the ripples had subsided, it shown a little wooden house somewhere on earth. A couple was working on a piece of fertile land just besides their house. Some few bushes of greenery were already flowing with produce. This must be a good season for them. Their basket was full. The family looked decent, hardworking farmers that needed to brave the sun and rain to earn money for a living.

While I was focusing on the couple, suddenly a boy, maybe about four years old, came out from the house and cried. His walk seemed unstable and weak. The mother immediately left her basket and ran to catch the boy before he fell. Fever. The boy was burning with fever, but the parent couldn't stop from working since the vegetables needed to be picked and sold at the market tomorrow. The father could not run fast enough, one of his foot was crippled, he needed to walk with the help of crutches made from hard woods. The mother was trying to calm the boy, smooching his face, stroking his back and cooing him to stop crying. She looked at her husband and felt torn between helping him at work or staying with the sick child. The husband touched her shoulder, just smiled and shook his head; to tell her it's alright to be with the child and he would work alone. The couple looked at each other. And, there was that again, those shine, coming out from their eyes, towards each other, towards the child.

That was the start of my obsession to keep coming back to the Water of Destiny to watch the family. Years went by, and the boy grew up to be an energetic and adventurous 10 years old. Naughty enough to go venturing with his village's friends; into the forest where a river flowed beautifully, and where a makeshift hut was made with fallen branches and leaves. When his friend's parents knew where they'd gone to, they were angry and worry since wild animals were lurking just at the forest perimeter. His friends were then forbidden from playing with him anymore because of the danger. So, he became alone.
