3rd POV
Once the feather was in the air it was quite easy for Perseus to keep it afloat. After a while he was feeling a little bored with the simple magic but the look on Hermione's face was worth the boredom. Her jaw had dropped and looked shocked that he got it up in the air at all, or perhaps she was surprised that he wasn't a complete idiot. Either way, her reaction was priceless!
Flitwick seemed to be surprised at his success as well but quickly smiled and squeaked out to the class from the top of his stack of books. "Well done everyone! It seems everybody still has the spell down to pat, so now we'll trying this spell wordlessly. I am aware that Hogwarts does not teach wordless magic until Seventh Year, but the Levitation Charm is quite simple and I have faith in almost all of you! The key to doing a wordless spell is to to the exact wand motions you would normally do. Instead of speaking the spell, you will push you magical intentions through. You must focus completely on the task you want done. For example, here you will simply point your wand at the feather, do the wand motions, and picture the feather floating. Another little hint is that you will focus on your magic lifting the feather rather then focusing on the spell to do all the work for you. Alright everyone, enough notes. Go on and give it a try!"
Perseus sat and stared at his feather in deep thought. He could barely levitate it with the spell, how could he do it without it? He hesitated for a slight moment - he didn't really feel like doing something he know he can't do - before he lazily waved his wand in the motions. Of course it didn't work, he didn't even focus his magic on what he wanted it to do. Instead of trying again, he took out a blank piece of parchment (Not paper, he thought, this World is very particular about what they call stuff.)
He hadn't really taken the notes from the class. He couldn't figure out how to write neatly with a quill and kept getting ink spots all over the parchment.
He smoothed out the nonexistent wrinkles in the parchment, Perseus doesn't think he'll ever get used to calling it that. Once it was smooth enough for him, he brought out the quill and ink pot. Why not just use a pen, his mind wondered. It'd be so much easier instead of constantly dipping the quill for ink.
With his new work station set up and neat he dipped the quill tip into the ink. Carefully he brought his quill over to his paper, his movements slow and calculated. He slowly lowered the quill and went to start writing as slow and neat as possible. Before a giant glob of ink slipped off his quill and stained the pristine parchment below. He was annoyed to say the least.
He shook it off and went to try again, the stain was in the upper corner where he was going to write his name but he supposed that part could wait. His slow process started all over again.
He was at the point where the ink slipped last time, this time he changed the angle he was holding the quill and hoped that gravity would work with him. The tip touched the parchment and he went to write the first word. Then the ink decided to have a little fun and splattered all over the parchment again.
Unable to hold back his annoyance, Perseus snapped the quill in half and tossed the pieces on top of the ruined pap- parchment.
He glanced beside him and saw Hermione looking at him weirdly. "Why don't you guys just use a pen?"
She lowered her wand from her, what seemed to be hundredth attempt at the wordless spell, and turned to look at him. "What do you mean?"
Perseus busied himself with getting a new piece of parchment. "Using a quill is difficult for those who weren't raised in this World. So for someone who was brought up in the, what's the word - Muggle? Anyway for someone raised in the Muggle World, they are used to pencils and pens so it's difficult to be thrust into this World that you have no prior knowledge of and then to top it off you can't even write properly. It's also strange for a school to have quills be required when they know that a lot of students have absolutely no clue on how to use them. Therefore my question is, why don't you guys use a pen?"
