Naomi's P.O.V

I'm in the room watching Tv when I my phone starts ringing. I pick my phone to check whose calling and not suprisingly it's Alex.

He's literally the only contact I have on my phone.

I pick it up and press the phone to my ears.

"Good evening" I say.

"Evening, sweetheart. How are you?" he asks.

"I'm fine. So why'd you call" I ask playing with the hem of my gown.

"Nothing really, just checking on you. I'm on my way home by the way" he says.

"So early?" I ask with creased eyebrows.

"Yeah, I'm hungry" he says.

I roll my eyes at that. Just say it direct, go and cook for me.

"What do you want to eat it?" I ask.

"Yam and egg sauce" he says.

"That's what you always eat, change it na" I say.

"It's my favourite food" he says.

"Alright" I say in a defeated tone.

"See you later love bye" he says then he hangs up.

I lazily get up from bed and put on my slippers. I better go and start making his meal.

When you are stuck with something for ten years you get used to it. Don't you.

I've been stuck with Alex for ten years and I've gotten used to him. I've accepted that this is my life now.

I have no choice. I have to show him love with all my heart if not he'll turn me to personal punching bag.

When I get to the kitchen, the maid is already there and she's washing the vegetables.

"Keep those Mary. We're not making fried rice again" I say sadly.

"Okay ma'am" she says and she sounds quite disappointed.

"I said you should call me toyosi" I say with a smile.

"Mr Williams said I shouldn't try it" she says.

I rub my temples to cool my nerves.

"Take a break, I'll cook myself" I say.

"Are you sure ma'am?" she asks uncertainty evident in her voice.

I nod affirmative.

"Thank you" she says then she leaves.

When we moved overseas Alex changed my name to Toyosi Bakare. That is what I started going by.

We just moved back to Nigeria last year during Christmas. Alex is a very successful and rich business man.

When I first started staying with Alex. It was hard for me.

I wouldn't cook for him.

I wouldn't answer him when he talks.

I wouldn't sleep on the same bed with him.

He wouldn't let me have friends.

It was pure torture. He would beat me up every single day. One day I got tired of all that bullshit.
