I huffed as I jogged down the road, occasionally glancing back. It was midnight so I doubted anyone would be following me but when you've trained to be an assassin your life, they teach you to be cautious.
I hissed as I stumbled over a rock and heard a small sound in an alley ahead of me. Dammit, I thought as I pulled out my small dagger that was on my boot. I slowed down as I neared the alley and carefully peered around the corner. I frowned. Suddenly something jumped out at me and I yelped, stumbling back. I heard hissing and screeching and I sighed with relief when I looked down and saw a small black kitten with its back arched, hissing up at me. I put my dagger back in the holster on my boot and kneeled down, putting a hand out slowly. The kitten hissed as I slowly reached out and started scratching its ears. I smiled when it calmed down a bit and leaned into my hand. Then I noticed that it was unnaturally thin and frowned. I picked it up and stood, gently petting it.
Forget this part ^
~years ago when Xavier was 15~
"You will do what I say! I don't care if you don't want to," She snapped at me and I narrowed my eyes then threw my gun down- thank god the safety was on-. "No!" I yelled and she grabbed me by the collar. "You will listen to me and your other superiors and if you refuse to then... let's just say you won't be protecting anybody again," She said quietly and I shuddered. If I refused to kill him she'd kill me... or worse. "I won't let you kill my dad!" I yelled and she threw me down, picked up my gun, took the safety off and pointed it at me. My lower lip started to quiver and I balled my hands into fists.
"Ma'am don't you think-" the guard who was behind me started to say but she interrupted him without taking her eyes off me. "No I don't think I'm being too harsh. This boy needs to learn his place and where he stands underneath us," She said, surprisingly calm. "You're asking him to kill his father, you've got to give him some sympathy," the guard tried to say and I scrambled up. "She can't show any cuz she has none," I said with venom in my voice. Olivia glared at me. "Throw him in the pit- I'll kill his dad myself if I have to," She said, bringing the gun down and snapping the safety on. "NO!" I yelled but the guard grabbed my arms and pulled me back. I struggled in his grip and glared at Olivia who casted me cold eyes. "If you loved me you wouldn't do this!" I screamed and her eyes widened a bit then she sighed.
"Then I guess I don't love you enough." I froze, feeling my heart nearly break into a thousand pieces. I bit my lip and hung my head. I went numb to the world as the guard carried me down to the little pit in the woods. He tried to get me out of my numbed state so he wouldn't have to actually throw me in but that's what he had to do. I hit the ground with a grunt and curled up in a ball on my side.
I stayed in that state for a long time until I heard footsteps above the hole and I glanced up to see Olivia, getting ready to go kill my dad. I narrowed my eyes at her.
I waited til after she left, to get up. I walked around the small pit. It was about 7 feet deep and maybe 30? feet across. I patted my belt and felt my dagger. Idiots, I thought as I started making a ladder on the side of the pit with the vines I dug out a little in the side. I put my foot on it and then my full weight, making sure that it wouldn't give out from underneath me.
I grabbed the top and hauled myself up then struggled to my feet with a grunt. I looked around and grabbed a pistol from a crate and loaded it then started running through the trees.
~At his parents house~
High pitched scream, a loud yell, and a gunshot.
I froze, shaking. "No," I whispered as I ran ahead and found Olivia on the porch with my dad's dead body lying in front of her, bleeding out through his chest. My sister stood at the door with a terrified face and tears in her eyes. Olivia usually sticked to stealth when it came to killing someone but... good thing she was alone. "Olivia!" I yelled and she turned around. "Didn't I tell you to stay put?" She called, but I couldn't even move. I was shaking to badly. "You-" I started then balled my hands into fists and took a breath. I walked forward as my eyes slowly turned to a dark red. I glared up at Olivia and her eyes widened. "You are so gonna regret this," I growled as I grabbed her by the neck then threw her down. "Xavier-" Maggie started but I grabbed my gun and pointed it at Olivia.
I never shot her... I don't know why I didn't. Maggie wouldn't have stopped me and she couldn't have if she wanted to. I just- broke down. Held my dad's body in my arms as Olivia ran.
After that happened, me and Maggie buried dad out back and broke the news to mom who broke down like I did before.
I became cold after the self funeral, distant to mom and Maggie. I still worked with Olivia but I paid her no mind and for a while I never questioned who she made me terminate- unless it was a kid under 15- and I finally started opening up again when I turned 24 and I killed her. Talk about a clear conscious, heh.
I didn't work very hard on this chapter sorry heh
