After my dad died, my spirit died a little... and by a little I mean it plummeted into a dark hole. I stopped eating as much as I used to and lost a lot of weight, I also stopped sleeping, usually spending my time crying in bed or debating on the knife in the kitchen or setting my wings on fire. I tried my damnedest to keep an upbeat attitude so no one would ask and I still did my pro hero work just as efficiently and Hawks was as dense as ever but of course my other best friend, Maggie, knew something was wrong.
"Hey Airi! You look tired today, did you get any sleep last night?" Maggie asked as I walked into the house we were sharing since I couldn't keep my dad's house. I sighed and rubbed my eyes, sitting at the dinner table. "Not really, but I'm fine," I half lied and she huffed, putting her hands on her lower hips. "You can't lie to me Airi, you know that, I see through all of them." I groaned, knowing she was right. One of her quirks is Ghost, she can see through any lie, the worse the lie the easier it is to spot it. Yes, that's right, I said one of, she has multiple but I don't feel like saying them. (just for this chapter) "And you've said that lie multiple times," Maggie said and I looked up at her. I felt bad for lying to them, I just couldn't deal with all that sympathy and pity they'd give me. "If I tell you, you can't get all pitying on me," I said and she paused then nodded with a grim face and I let out a heavy sigh. "My dad died," I announced and Maggie's eyes widened as her hands dropped. "How?!" She blurted and I averted my eyes away from her. "Overdose on sleeping pills," I mumbled and I felt Maggie's gaze soften. "I'm-" She started and I shot a glare at her. "Don't," I snapped and she paused. "Is that why you've looked so tired?" She asked and I gave a small nod. "Why don't you want sympathy?" She asked and I rolled my eyes. "Too many people would say the same thing 'I'm sorry' and I get tired of it. It's not their faults," I explained and Maggie sat down in the seat across from me.
