"I can't believe they did that to you!," Kaiya's parents shout and pace back and forth.
When I got to Kaiya's house apparently she had told her parents that I sounded distraught on the phone and they were waiting for me. They attacked me with questions as soon as I got in the door until I finally just told them everything.
After awhile I just tuned out their ranting and yelling. Don't get me wrong I'm absolutely glad to have a second set of parents as amazing as them. At the moment I'd just rather not think about the hurt that my parents have caused me.
"Hey!," I shout to get their attention. "I love you guys you're my Ohana but I don't feel like talking about this right now. Is it okay if I crash in your guest room while I figure stuff out?"
"Of course! There's no longer a guest room it's now your room and you can stay as long as you need to," Kaiya's mom tells me.
"You guys have no idea how grateful I am to have you," I explain. "You're my light at the end of the tunnel," I smile at them.
"Where's your stuff?" Kaiya asks me.
"When I went home the locks were changed and they wouldn't answer the door so I wasn't able to grab anything," I told them.
"We could call the cops," Kaiya suggests.
"No! No cops. They'll just force me back on my parents because I'm not eighteen yet."
"Maybe we can work something out with your mom and...," before Kaiya's dad could finish the doorbell rang.
Kaiya got up to answer it and came back into the living room with a police officer. She gave me a look as if to say 'this wasn't us' to reassure me.
"Who's lavender buggy is that outside?," the officer asks.
"Mine," I say "Why? What's wrong officer?"
"It was reported stolen by a Mr. and Mrs. Kahuanui and you're going to have to come down to the station ma'am," he says.
"WHAT?!," we all shout in unison.
"There must me a misunderstanding those are my parents and I got that car as a birthday present," I try to plead my case.
"Can you prove this?," he asks.
"My proof is in my room at my house. My mom told me I couldn't come back while I was in the hospital I just got released today. When I came home the locks were changed," I try to reason with him and continue explaining, "When I rang the bell they wouldn't answer the door so I got in my car and came to my best friends house. I promise this is the truth."
"Why were you in the hospital?" the officer continues to ask questions.
"I'm pregnant and while I was home early from school I saw something that caused me to have a panic attack," I tell him without saying what I saw.
"The doctor said she stressed herself too hard," Kaiya told him.
"May I ask what you saw?"
"No officer you may not," I tell him straight out. "No disrespect but that's a personal matter."
"That's okay but I'm afraid you're still gonna have to come with me while we straighten this out," he explains to me.
Just great! Right when I thought God closes one door for a window to open he slams the window right in my face. Bless my family, NOT!
