☕Chapter 3☕
Where It All Went Wrong
Their relationship has grown stronger over the months, and it has been three years since they began dating. Some people were glad and there where the ones a little on the salty side. She moved in with him on the second-and-a-half year. She worked as usual and cooked before Amari could get home. It seemed like they were a married couple until when..Sonia was at the balcony, wearing one of his old shirts as she looked over the distant lights of the city.
She felt a kiss over her satin scarf tied on her head and arms snake around her waist. "Waiting up for me?"
"Not exactly, I was gonna sleep in a few." She replied.
"I'm glad you did, actually."
"Why?"
He turned her around to face him, "You mean a lot to me, Sonia."
"I know that." She giggled.
"And I want you to show you." He went down on one knee."Amari..?" She stuttered as he opened a box with a ring that cost years worth of rent for the apartmen she once lived in.
"I want you to be my wife, Sonia Reynolds.""No, it's not that. The ring looks expensive. I- I.."
"You deserve everything the world has to offer, and I will do all there is in my power to make sure you have it all. So, I'll ask one more time– Sonia, will you marry me?"
"Yes." He scooped her up in his arms and showered her with kisses.☕☕☕
Here they were at the engagement party, Amari was introducing her to his colleagues and members of staff. It was a hell of a lot of people so she decided to have a seat with her cousin Melania and her friend Ezra.
"I still can't believe you're getting married, Sonia. I'm proud of you!" Melania hugged her.
"I can't believe it myself either." Sonia chuckled, downing a glass of cocktail. While they were conversing a woman approached them. "I am Sita Nandlall, Mr. Anwar's assistant. It's an honor meeting you, his wife." A caramel skinned woman with defined cheek bones, plush cherry lips and feather-like eyelashes greeted with a million-dollar smile.
"Nice to meet you, Sita. I hope he treats his staff members nicely."
"He does, as all bosses he has mood swings here or there. I hope you leave him well taken care of."
"As his wife now, I'll do my best."
"I do wish you all the best in your marriage, congratulations Mrs. Anwar." She winked before walking off."Assistant, huh? Better watch her."
"What?"
"Sita. I've read way too many books to not notice. The way she greeted you was a subliminal message for 'Hey, I screw your husband at work while you're waiting for his ass to come home' look."
"Oh come on.." Sonia chuckled, "You got a point though..."☕☕☕
The knot was tied less than two months later and their honeymoon to Dubai passed. Now it was just her and him at home most of the time. For the first time in quite a long time she was at ease.
One morning she was fastening her bra and pulling her cappuccino coloured stockings over her thighs as she got ready to work. Amari walked in the room with a confused look on his face.
"What is this? Why is your uniform on the bed?" He questioned.
"I'm getting ready for work, of course."
"Work?" He pulled her hands away from reaching her uniform. "Baby, you don't have to work anymore."
"Well how am I supposed to make money?" She yanked her hand away from him.
"Are you forgetting who you're married to?"
"Amari you know I don't like spending your money. I'm not like that." She couldn't even keep track of the many times she told him this, and he refuses to understand."Listen Sonia; my love," He held her from behind, "We're married now and what's mine is yours. Money and all. I want you to relax and not overwork yourself."
"So what I'm supposed to do when I'm home?"
"Go shopping, or to the spa to get your hair and nails done, or you could just rest up at home."
She sighed, "Okay."
"I'm glad you agreed. I love you."
"Love you too."She didn't know that's where it was all about to go wrong.
[A/N: I have no problem with stay-at-home wives, but it is up to the wife if she wants to work or stay home. A man can't make that decision for a woman. It ain't the 1950's.]
