☕Chapter 10☕
One Day At A Time
Ezra came home back at around seven, she made steak with steamed potatoes and veggie rice. They sat in front of the television and engaged in a conversation.
"How was it?"
"It was a good start, he's alright." She replied as her mind drifted to him. Where was he now? Home, of course. She wondered if he has to report to her husband about her progress, she knows Amari will do that."That's good." Ezra shovelled a spoon of her cooking into her mouth. It was actually funny how she learned how to cook. Wheb she was eight, her parents left her home alone with take out, she got tired of it and started watching the cooking channel. She started making sandwiches, then salads, then stew, then a full course meal. Baking came into play when she was in middle school while learning Home Economics.
"Ezra, I still can't thank you enough for staying with me, it means a lot. You're such a great friend."
"I know girl, I know. And I'll stay here with you as long as you need me to. " Ezra enveloped Sonia in a hug, and that's when the tears began to well in her eyes. She must have cried an ocean of tears already.
"I'm just hoping I could get up and walking so I can't depend on you much longer."
"Can't rush the process, just flow with it."☕☕☕
Sonia laid on her bed scrolling through her phone, she was scrolling through her phone when she received a call. Her eyes lit up at the caller ID, it was her cousin.
"Melania, hi! How's everything?"
"Good, I'm just.. waiting for my boyfriend to get out of jail. He's supposed to be out in just a few months.."
"Jail?! You're into badboys now? What did your mom say?"
"Remember Enrique from highschool, that's him. And yeah, my mom didn't take it well, we're not even speaking.."
"Enrique? Lorenzo's brother? Goddamn.."
"Yeah, it's a long story.. What about you? How's Mr. Anwar?"
"We're divorced, nearly month now."
"What?"
"Yeah. We argued all the time, he was always working. He had an affair with his assistant, I caught them red-handed in his office. So I was walking out to go to my car when I was run over by a ten ton truck!"
"Holy crap!" She could hear Melania's sniffles over the phone, "Thank God you're alive.."
"I had several broken bones, in my right arm, leg and toes. I'm wheelchair-ridden right now. But I got a house, money and physical therapy he paid for, I pretty much won the case."
"That's good. I'm so sorry, cuz. I'll come visit soon, I'm all caught up in work."
"Do your thing. Love you, bye!"
"Bye! I'll tell you the whole story when I come see you. Love you!"☕☕☕
It was midnight, her mind was completely awake as she stared at the small chandelier that hung over her bed. At this point, she felt like a waste of resources. She even thought about taking her life, but she just couldn't do it.
She knew she had a lot to live for, nothing to die for.
She knew she would give love another try once she got her act together.
She knew she would have a few children in the distant future.
But one thing she knew for sure, was that she was never ever getting married again.
[Gamophobia/Gametophobia- Fear of marriage]
She bit her lower lip as she forced herself to sit upright, letting her feet touch the carpet. Her toes curled into the fabric as she closed her eyes, humming a little mantra to herself.
Rise, Sonia. Rise from the bud, touch the sun. Bathe in its rays, it's your time!
She took another breath as she used all the stength in her arms to push her off the bed. She felt like she was floating once she stood on her feet, holding onto the wheelchair as she straightened her back.
"Holy frick, why does it feel like my back is breaking?" She winced as she stretched her arms up, pointing them towards the ceiling. Her limbs were trembling, she fought the tears that threatened to fall and attempted to make one single step. A sharp pain shocked through her ankles and she fell to her knees with a loud thud.
"What's that noise?" Ezra rushed in immediately, her eyes now focused on Sonia that was sprawled out on the floor. "Sonia, what were you thinking?"
"I had a nightmare, it felt so real.."
"A nightmare?" Ezra raised her brow, refusing to digest her lie. "You wre trying to walk, weren't you?" She accused. And Sonia plead guilty.
"Yes." She hung her head down like a scolded child."
"Sonia, baby.." Ezra said as she helped her up into her wheelchair. "Take it a day at a time, trust the process. And trust me, you'll be running and jumping and skipping like before."
