"What? And you only tell me that when we're basically standing on your front porch?"
Minho looks at me incredulously, shoulders drooping and eyebrows knitting together in a confused frown. "Sung, this is something that usually takes a little time to prepare for. Why didn't you tell me?"
Guilt washes over me, and I quietly nibble on my lower lip for a moment, formulating a proper reply.
"I thought it would save you from a lot of stress if I didn't tell you beforehand," I quietly explain, refusing to look at the other with my cheeks red in shame.
It's such a me-thing, messing up big time in important situations like this. My good intentions often turn out as big failures and it's honestly so embarrassing that I made a mistake like this while it involves my boyfriend.
"Hey, don't look so sad," Minho says, cupping my cheeks and forcing me to look at him. "I'm not upset, just a little surprised."
He presses a light kiss against my lips, only satisfied when a small smile crosses my face.
"I'm sorry, Min," I sigh, mentally facepalming myself. If I only thought about this a little better, this wouldn't have happened.
"Hey, what did I tell you," Minho lightly scolds me, gently squishing my cheeks with his hands while smiling reassuringly. "I'm not mad, how can I be mad at my adorable boyfriend about something minor as this? Yeah, it would've been better if you told me but it's not the end of the world, I'm still excited to meet them."
After letting go and taking a step back, he smiles sheepishly. "It's just a little last-minute panic kicking in right now. Do I even look decent enough?"
I quickly eye him up and down, still feeling extremely guilty for not telling him about my plan.
"Decent is an understatement," I reassure him, and even though I'm a little stressed now as well, there's no lie in that. "You look good, Min, don't worry."
Minho nods stiffly, and I purse my lips into a thin line. "We can still go back and do something else," I suggest. "And then we can come back another time, when you're prepared."
"Sung, it's fine," the boy replies. "You're right, at least you saved me from a lot of nerves beforehand."
"I'm not sure if this helps, but my parents have no idea either," I inform him, trying to muster up a smile.
"Do you even know if they're home?" Minho questions, glancing around and probably trying to guess which house it is.
I remain silent, only realizing more and more how stupid and impulsive this entire idea is.
Taking my silence as an answer, my boyfriend heaves out a small sigh. "You're such an airhead, baby. Now let's go."
I nod, and we walk away from the bus stop as I lead the way towards one of the houses. I can see my dad's car in the parking lot nearby, meaning that at least he's home. Seems like I remembered their day off correctly.
I notice Minho tensing up as we set foot into a neatly kept front yard, and I'm once again hit by a wave of guilt. Maybe this really wasn't the best thing to do unprepared and I'm about to tell myself to do this better next time.
But honestly, I'm not planning on introducing another guy to my parents.
"Sung? Do your parents know that you're–" Minho begins as we come to a halt in front of the door. He glances at the house nervously, and I reach out to intertwine my fingers with his.
"They do, and they are super supportive," I tell my boyfriend, squeezing his hand lightly. "My dad found out when I was talking to Felix over the phone, telling him about a cute guy I saw in the mall years ago. Little did I know that my dad was standing in the doorway of my bedroom."
