Yesterday felt like a dream.
The tenderness of his lips still lingered against mine as I stirred from my slumber. I weakly reached out to John, expecting to feel the warmth of his body, but my hand only skimmed the cold surface of the bed. I sat up and opened my eyes as I searched the room for his presence, but he was nowhere to be found.
I turned slightly as a colorful bouquet of flowers caught my eyes, the abrasive lighting glimmering against the saran wrap. I picked up a slip of paper buried beneath the wrapping and opened it, met by a familiar, untidy scrawl.
Delta, I had to go take care of some stuff at my place. Get some rest, Miss Pouty, I promise I'll come back. (Btw, the color of the flowers represent the different shades of your face when you get embarrassed).
Next to his name was a small heart. I scoffed half-heartedly before I examined the bouquet of flowers with adoration, mesmerized by the various shades of pink intermixing in a pleasant melody. I gently stroked the petals as I smiled, feeling a soft heat invade my cheeks.
These are my favorite flowers. He remembers. Where did he even get these? Dahlias weren't flowers that you could get your hands on easily, especially in a flower shop.
"Oh man, I didn't think they would let us see her."
"Yeah, she has a lot of security near her room...."
"Hmm....is she really a cupcake person? What if she doesn't like it?"
A familiar triad of muffled voices drew closer, growing louder despite my closed door. Before it opened, I caught a flash of blazing red hair peeking over the small square window of my doorway, softly opening to reveal Remi, Blyke, and Isen.
"Delta! I'm glad you're okay." Remi smiled before enveloping me in a hug, followed by Blyke and Isen. "I brought cupcakes!" She said as she set down a Tupperware containing a dozen of beautifully decorated desserts.
"Oh and these are for you," Blyke said as he handed me a dozen of deep red roses.
"Wow, these are beautiful," I replied, assailed by the soft fragrance that wafted off the petals. "Guys....thanks for all of this," I said as I set the flowers in an empty vase next to the Dahlias.
"Yeah, don't sweat it, man," Isen said as he took a cupcake from the container. "We got worried when we heard that you were in the hospital."
"Heard?" I asked, peeling away the cupcake wrapper. "From who?"
"Well, the next day after the Kovoro Mall incident, Headmaster Vaughn called us in because there was an article written about what we did." Remi sighed as she took a seat next to Blyke. "He didn't seem angry at us.....he was just reminding us about the rep that Wellston maintained and so on and so forth." she looked at me. "And that's when he told us that you were excused from class for some time because of the incident that occurred with your brother."
"We should've been there with you," Blyke admitted with a bitter edge resonating in his voice. "You wouldn't be here if we were there to support you."
"No," I said as I discarded the wrapper, "Don't blame yourself. No one could've foreseen that this would've unfolded on that day. If you guys were there, you would've been hurt....or worse. Irel's more powerful than me but they managed to put him in critical condition, and put me in the hospital."
"They?" Isen raised a brow. "There were multiple people?"
"There were three of them. Their abilities didn't seem too powerful, but there was a woman who appeared to be the ring leader. She had these 'fire claws' that managed to maul Irel to near death, and there were two other people who had a 'lunging' ability and an ability to make portals." I informed, recalling my encounter.
