"Hey."
My eyes fluttered against the sun pouring through the window, temporarily blinding me before I could gather my senses. Sera's flash of brightly colored hair clouded my vision as I sat up, my skin sticky from the cold sweat that layered my body all night.
"What....?"
My voice trailed off as my eyes flickered to the sun shining brightly overhead. I threw the covers off of me in hurry, stumbling to my feet as the realization dawned on me.
"Crap, what time is it? I'm late for class...!" I said in a rushed tone, reaching for the door.
"Hold on."
She clamped a firm hand on my shoulder, slightly shaking me to snap me out of my frantic trance. I whirled around to her quickly and winced as my hair whipped against my face in a sharp motion.
"It's noon, and John should be out soon. You're not in any condition to go to school. You're sick." She replied as my rush of adrenaline faded, replaced with a dizziness that began to make my head throb.
I sat back down on the bed and gripped my head.
"You should wash up. The steam will make you less congested." She said as I nodded weakly, leaving me to get ready.
A wave of disgust washed over me as I peeled off my clothes, letting the aggressive patter of the showerhead temporarily drown away my anxiety. Soap slithered down my back as I shakily sat down on the floor, rocking myself back and forth before placing my head between my knees.
"Oh? You've brought another one for me?"
The peal of my mother's sweet voice was pressed on repeat, inducing a flood of repressed memories that began to run through my mind. The scent of her jasmine perfume suddenly intoxicated my lungs, suffocating me with each breath I took. Her warmth and tender touches felt so real against my skin, making my body prickle uncomfortably despite the hot water that washed over me.
No, I thought. I don't want to remember her that way. She loved me. She loved me....
"You wouldn't understand, would you, Delta?"
I felt the breath of her words skim my ear, her nimble fingers tightening against my neck.
"I do!" I snarled viciously.
Without thinking, my glowing fist collided against the tile wall. Bits of tile crumbled from the surface, shattering into even smaller pieces as they fell onto the floor of the tub. I pulled back my fist in astonishment as I glanced at the small, bloodied cuts marked onto the surface of my knuckles, using my good hand to shut the water off.
Crap, I have to explain that to John later.....
"Dammit...." I huffed, shaking my head to let the crimson glint dissipate from my eyes. I glanced at my hand again in awe, with no trace of the wounds I inflicted a moment ago.
"Delta? Are you alright?"
Sera's muffled voice emerged from the other side of door, followed by a soft knock.
"Y-yeah," I sighed, setting my hand against the wall. "I just....dropped the damn shampoo bottle on my foot."
I stepped out of the tub and ran the towel over my body, mindlessly going through the motions of getting dressed and drying off, shaking the towel against my hair with a little more force than necessary.
"Hey Sera, I was wondering if you had a brush. My hair's in knots-"
I abruptly stopped in the doorway as my eyes fell onto a black haired man standing next to her.
