I turned my back on Kev. Rave was just lurking in the dark. He promised not to ruin this night for me just by following me like a lap dog. Laina was all around Brix, they managed to get to me quickly. She smiled at me as she took off her big violet mask.

"Hello, Laina. Hi Ex," I hid the sparkle in my eyes. Ex, Brix. Quite a rhyme.

"Enjoying yourself with Kev?" She's goading me, I thought so, in front of Brix.

"Just reminscing the past. A bizaare love triangle, remember Laina?" She flinched. Good. If she thought she could win fencing verbally with me. She better think again. Kung may utak nga talaga si Laina...

"Are you alone?"

"Yes, unless you want to accompany me which is impossible." I stressed out the words with my glance being pointed at Laina. Brix got it.

"Three is a crowd." Laina could sense it. She might not have a common sense at times, but she's not that dumb.

"The more, the merrier dearie..." I tapped her shoulder and walked away.

You wouldn't know who is who unless he takes off his mask. Different designs of ball gowns with one motif. Varieties of colors with one fashion.

I danced the night away. I drank to exhaustion. I flirted to my heart's content. In the midst of the wee hours of the night someone caught hold of my hand in the crowd.

"Marcus." So may mukha pa palang ihaharap ang worm na ito?

"Good to see you here..."

"I don't know if I should say the same..."

He looked around. Some peons were groping, relieving their needs off in the dark alleys. The smell of wine and something toxic was brewing in the air.

"We could talk upstairs. It's quiet there..."

"Marcus," I shouted in his ear. "I've no time for small talk." I could see a smile flickering on his face. Good God. He was really an idiot. Oh, well, Caroline must have a penchant for dumb men.

"Sure, whatever you wanted. I'm yours." I waved at the waiter and murmured something. I gave Marcus a lopsided smile as he led me upstairs. There goes the library.

"Where do you want?" He lazily untied his cravat. I vow I could feel his excitement.

"Take it off."

"Caroline's pregnant... then..." He was hesitant at first but I could smell secrecy here.

"She is, alright. But the contract didn't state that I shouldn't be unfaithful to her."

I straightened my back. I scrunched one brow. He laughed bitterly.

"Laugh at me..." Later, Marcus when I'm done with you.

"It wasn't mine. Caroline? Ha! My father, he would do anything to win the election. We don't have that much money for campaigns. So... Caroline's family will not be disgraced. My father will win the election as promised by her father if I..." He shrugged.

"You can always say no." I said softly. I'd have second thoughts, I shouldn't pity Marcus but I did. He was compromised. Used. Well, it ain't my problem anymore.

He laughed as if the demon had possessed him. "And what? I'd get to be on the headlines for being disowned? I won't inherit a dime if I refuse."

Silence. I could feel his bitterness. Like a caged animal.

"Let's just get on with the business... or should I say... pleasure?"

I watched with squared shoulders as he peeled off his clothes one by one. He had not a stitch on save for his underwear when the door opened loudly.
