SAERA looked at the clock hanging above the whiteboard. she grimaced at the sight of the long hand ticking, indicating that there were only two minutes left till the girl had to serve her first detention with the boy, whom was supposedly, her soulmate.
she quietly whipped her phone out, placing the cover of her calculator at the back discreetly as she unlocked her phone to go on instagram. she sighed, scrolling through the millions of updates from her friends and seniors who seemed to be having the time of their lives. i'm about to have mine in a while. ya'll aren't special, she thought, smirking to herself.
just then, the loud bell began to ring eerily across the whole school, signalling for dismissal. saera looked up from her phone, biting her lip. she caught a glimpse of youngjae, who had turned around to face her with a devillish smirk. she rolled her eyes, shoving the physics textbook into her backpack before pushing her chair under her desk. she grabbed her backpack and walked quietly down the stairs to the detention room.
youngjae brushed past her with a glintful look in his eyes. " it's going to be okay, have fun on your first date." he skipped happily out of school grounds, as saera watched his figure disappear completely. she sighed again hopelessly before knocking on the door to her doomsday.
" come in," a voice boomed from inside of the room. she opened it to see mr han, a man in his forties who she doubts is even planning to get married anytime soon. his shirt was messy and his black jeans seemed to have more creases than her math examination back in fourth grade that she stuffed at the back of her cupboard. sitting on the front desk, his eyes glued to the novel in front of him. " pick a seat."
saera's eyes wandered around the room. she was the only one with detention today, well, apart from sunwoo. she spotted a nice seat at the back and was about to walk towards the empty table when mr han sticks his leg out, as if to stop her from walking any further. " not so fast, ms jo. your phone? ".
saera rolls her eyes before handing mr crease her phone. she cussed under her breath, " fuck, there goes two hours of anime."
mr han ignores her rude behaviour, brushing it off as another one of a child's 'growing years' tantrums'. children, they just simply can't live without their phones now, no? then stay out of trouble, he thinks, before flipping over another page of his novel.
saera plopped down onto her seat and looked out of the window, her eyes boring into the busy groups of students bustling outside of school after dismissal. she snorts to herself when she sees backpack kid from 3-1 missing his bus. " idiot," she thought, amused at the sight.
just then, the door barged open to reveal none other than saera's potential soulmate. his hair was messy then, that or it was as if he didn't know how combs worked anymore in this modern age. his attire was a tad bit dirty, dirt and powder were visible on his schooltie and it seemed to saera that he had made zero effort to look presentable at all. then again, it was detention— who gives a fuck.
saera spotted hyunjae behind the nervous boy. he muttered a few words into the boy's ear before sunwoo pushed him out of the room in a rage, slamming the door behind him. " good luck in detention, sunwoo! " hyunjae exclaimed from the other side of the door, as sunwoo groaned in frustration.
" oi! do you want detention as well, lee jaehyun? " mr han barked from his seat, but by then the moron had already sprung to his feet to avoid anymore unwanted attention from the demon.
mr han sighed in exhaustion. sunwoo stood completely still, his eyes wide as saucers as he clung onto his bag straps shakily. mr han looked him up and down, " what are you waiting for, kim? take a seat, we don't have all day."
saera watched as sunwoo fumbled with his bag straps, waddling towards an empty table at the front. " y-yeah.. well.. i um.. sorry.. it's just my first time with d-detention... hahah... lol this isn't going well, is it? ".
mr han frowned at the boy's odd behaviour before face palming. " please... just take a seat."
sunwoo nodded, plopping himself down onto the chair. saera had been watching the the whole time, both enjoying and cringing at the scene that had unfolded right in front of her. she continued to rest her chin on her palm until sunwoo had turned around and made accidental eye contact with her. he quickly turned away, and she could see his ears turning a bright shade of red just then.
saera, too, turned away, averting her gaze back to the window beside her.
" my soulmate's such a dork," she thought to herself, smiling.
