. . .
"Where are we going?" Alyssa asked as she looked outside the moving car. It's only been a few minutes since we left the house and I can still recognize the direction. We're travelling to the East, for some reason. If I recall, the only exits I've been to were the North exit and the South exit. The north exit would lead to another town much smaller than ours, and the south exit, which is only less than 20 minutes from the house, would lead to the beach.
I remember Papa Kane telling me that the West exit leads to the centre of the region. In short, the west leads to the city that's why there are many businesses and trades happening in the west. Including that bar owned by Felicia, and where me and Papa Kane would usually go to buy and sell some items for the house. He never told me about the East exit so I'm a bit curious where we would end up.
It has only been a few minutes since I left the house, and I already miss everyone. Knowing Mama Iris, she would be missing me but won't show it to anyone. Just thinking about her crying about me being gone really hurts my heart. I wish I could just stop the car, jump outside and run back to the house. But that's impossible.
Matilda Love looked at me weirdly then held the lock of the door since she sat close to it. She held the lock and closed it even though it's already closed, but she's not removing her stare at me.
"What?" I asked.
"Why are you planning to jump outside the car and run back to Iris' house?" She asked with the weird look on her face. I thought she's just trying to tease me or joking with me, but the genuine confusion in her eyes tells me that she really thinks I'm planning to jump outside and run back.
No. I'm not doing that. I said mentally, and she sighed in relief.
I forgot she can read minds. She told it to me last time they went to the house and she read my mind. I thought I told her not to read my mind for privacy?
"Sorry." She apologized with a smile on her face.
You're still reading my mind, aren't you? I asked in my mind once again. She groaned loudly and pouted at me like she's about to apologize again. I knew it, she's reading my mind since she entered the house so I'm not surprised anymore. I wonder if Alyssa knew she's reading our minds.
"I'm really sorry! Promise, I won't read yours anymore." She said and raised her right hand in the air like she's making a pledge to someone.
"You're reading his mind, Miss Matilda?" Alyssa asked with curiosity that made Matilda grimace.
"And yours." I added and she looked surprise with a gasp.
She held her head like she's trying to protect it from someone. I laughed loudly at her cuteness, like she's trying to block Matilda from reading her mind. Matilda shook her head to deny but she just sighed when it was pretty obvious that she's reading our mind.
I reached for Alyssa's hands and set it back down. She really looks funny with her hands on her head. She's like a kid!
Thinking about kids made my mood down again. I just miss the kids. Their smiles, their cuteness, their enthusiasm, our times when we played together. I miss every moment I spent with them and now I reconsidering the thought of jumping out of the car and go back to them as fast as I can.
And I knew it, she's reading my mind again when she tried to lock the door again.
I groaned in annoyance about the thought the she can read my mind but was too lazy to protest to her. I just let her read my mind since there wasn't really anything to read but my longing and my memories with the house and everyone. Mama Iris, Papa Kane, Reiner and the others. I really hope Reiner doesn't break his promise with me about taking care of them.
