Nick let out a previously held breath of air.

His confident exterior was often just that- a cover.
A mask of sorts on how he really felt.

A lot of the time, he kept that mask tightly over his face for others, his teammates. His friends.
When missions go sour and battles take a turn for the worst, spirit was something that they needed to pull through every time.
So if his team-his friends- couldn't do that for themselves, then Nick would gladly take up that mantle instead.

But right now was different,
Just some good, old fashioned nerves spiking up at the thought of facing against his mentor.

In truth, unless it was the only other option, Nick wasn't he had what it took to fight his friends for real.
It made him shudder.

Who could blame him?!
Daggeron had decades of high maintenanced and strict training compared to his several couple of months.

To put it frankly-
And excuse his language-
He was going to get his ass handed to him.

But...Nick couldn't help but feel something else too-pushing aside the adrenaline and stoic fronts he often puts up in fights-the emotion was something akin to excitement!

Nick felt his lips quirk upwards as he got into a laxed, but ready to move stance.
Keeping in mind to not take his eyes off of him for even a moment.

Udonna stood, "Ready?"

Daggeron and Nick passed a mutual nod.

She smiled, "Begin!"

Nick knew that he needed to use all his stops for this one, pulling fiercely on the rope, catching his opponent slightly off balance, he rushed forward, bringing the wooden sword across him.

Wasn't fast enough

An audible knock was heard as the two wooden practice weapons came into contact.

"Not going to work this time Nick." Nick's gaze locking with his mentor's.

He put on a cocky expression to seem nonchalant, "Yeah, sure. 'This time'."

He kicked Daggeron away, but didn't let him straighten yet; Nick lashed out again only to have his opponent move away at the last moment.

He needed to be faster still! If he were to win against a skilled enemy, one of his chances of success were to overpower(unlikely, knowledge is power and experience is key) or to surprise them.
Nick needed to be fast enough to knock him off balance and gain an advantage!

Daggeron began the next move, outstretching his arm and in a precise jab, leaving Nick little room to block it.

He aimed to meet the sword head on, but his blade slipped down to the handle, catching the wooden piece and stopping the tip from coming to much closer.

Shoot- That was close!

Daggeron raised an eyebrow, sure, not the most conventional way one blocked, but making him on edge was the goal right?

Nick flicked his wrist, making both of them rotated their items.
To gain more distance, Nick quickly jumped back.

Daggeron hummed in approval at his actions, taking in consideration of future attempts.

His smiled, deciding to have a bit of fun. "You've certainly grown these past months Nick, but you still have much to learn before getting to my level."

Nick raised an eyebrow as his comrades laughed freely towards the slight jab in his abilities.
He smirked with retaliation.
"I see that uhh....humility becomes less important when one reaches....middle age."

Daggeron looked taken back while Vida complimented the retort.
His teacher shrugged before launching back at Nick, his legs stretching out to achieving wider distances, his sword stretched out before him......

Huh.....wide legs stances....he could use that....

Nick moved to the left, evading the blade,

He just needed an opportunity to present itself....

Nick narrowed his eyes in focus, making the veteran a tad suspicious...

Nick pulled the rope his way, but Daggeron held his ground this time, placing his feet firmly into the ground and pulled back with equal measure.

Nick gritted his teeth, physically his teacher was stronger than him.
Now what?

Come on! Come on! Come on!
Nick felt something in his arms and legs grow tighter.
What?

Daggeron's pull felt lighter, not by much, but still making him question.

Deciding to go with it anyway, he extended his foot behind him, and pulled again.

Daggeron's eyes widened out of surprise, as his balance was now out of equilibrium.

They ignored to cheers and shouts of his teammates.

"Woah-"

He needed to act fast before he recovered fully!

Daggeron, probably out of instinct compared to others things, brought back up his sword in defense.

Nick felt his lips quirk up, there!

Nick used the rope currently in his hand to to twirl it circles.
The rope spun forward, wrapping around his opponent's armed wrist.

The enemy put a foot out in front of him, using in to catch himself, leaving his legs farther apart.

Nick pulled on the rope again, this time with ease. The roped hands of his enemy grew tighter, now bound to each other like handcuffs.

He put his own foot out, catching Daggeron's, leaving the elder with no chance of regaining his previous balance.

Daggeron lost grip on his sword, at first at the sudden constriction, then out of an attempt to better mange his fall.

Daggeron blew away the dirt that collected on his face, blinking when he felt something sharp touch his shoulder.

Looking over it, Nick stood a bit smug, yet slightly confused as well...

Scrunching his features at the sudden victory, he just asked the obvious...

"What?..."
