Lauren stood in front of the classroom nervously. She glanced at Camila as if asking, "do I have to?" Camila gave her two thumbs up. Lauren drew in a big breath and exhaled. "Hi, so for show and tell. I brought something I think is pretty cool." Lucy was practically on the edge of her sit ready to listen. Camila smiled as students began to zone in.
"I brought this!" Lauren pulled out her adoption certificate and her newly approved name. "I know it looks like just piece of paper, but it's special." Lauren gave the papers back to Camila to hold. "You see many kids stay within their own families forever. Which in most cases is okay," Lauren looked down at her feet, "but sometimes parents aren't good either. they make mistakes like we do. All the time." Lauren took a pause as gasps collected in the room. "Parents sometimes aren't ready to be parents and it leaves the kids in the middle. Then they are taken to a new family. This is what this paper is for me. Family." Lauren then picked up a piece of chalk to write on the board like she had practiced at home. "I am Lauren Michelle Cabello. I love with Miss Cabello because she chose me to be family. You can't really change your family for the most part, but it doesn't mean you can't make your own. Thank you!" Lauren then rushed to her seat.
Camila smiled as students began to clap for Lauren whispering how cool it was.
After a long day of show and tell, coloring, and math, Lauren was so ready to be home. She put her homework in her backpack waiting for Camila to finish at her desk. "You ready to go home, baby?" Lauren nodded fast, "I'm so tried, mama." Camila rolled her eyes, "you did so good today. I'm proud of you for sharing." Lauren smiled, "thank you, mama." Camila helped Lauren put her backpack on as they exited the classroom. "Can you help me with times tables?" Camila nodded, "of course, only if you help me with dinner though."
"Deal!"
Ariana waited at home with flowers and a ring. She honestly don't know why she waited this long, but everything seemed to be falling into place. She had also bought Lauren a necklace with a moon charm to promise her the world. Ariana felt more nervous than ever as the two girls stepped inside. "mommy!!" Lauren jumped up, "I didn't know you would be home!" Camila raised an eyebrow, "I didn't know either." Ariana nervously smiled holding Lauren and kissing Camila on the cheek. "I have a surprise for my girls." Ariana lead them to the living room. Camila and Lauren sat down waiting patiently.
"So, we have been through a lot together and I believe that has been what has brought us closer. As a family," Ariana explained bringing in flowers as well as a wrapped box. "Today I wanted to step forward with you two. Camila, you have been my rock, my love, and my heart for what seems like years. I couldn't imagine not having you or Lauren in my life. I want it to be forever," Ariana started, "and Lauren, I want you to know you have a home. A family. Two mommies who love you so so much." Ariana then got down on one knee and presented the girls with boxes. "Mommy got me a necklace!" Camila opened hers next and started to tear up. "Will you marry me, Camz?" Camila nodded her head hugging and kissing Ariana. Ariana hugged her back, "and lo, I promise to take care of your mama and you. forever." Lauren also said yes and joined in on the hug. "I love you," Camila said wiping away the tears, "okay, bug, help me with dinner." Ariana laughed and let out a breath. They said yes.
"Just wait until she is a teenager," Camila spoke taking photos of Lauren drawing at her desk. Ariana laughed, "I will go through all the phases with my girls." Camila kisses Ariana, "our little moon child." Ariana smiled into the kiss, "yes, ours." Lauren sighed, "can you guys stop kissing! I'll tell Aunt Dinah!"
