A man was standing in his shop. Behind the register, minding his own business, reading the local newspaper. His interest was now on a column about a new natural phenomenon.
An arrow shot from an open window from the other side of the store right toward him. It whistled through the air and flew with great speed towards him.
Without even looking up, he caught the arrow between his fingers, just before it could hit his face.
The bell of the store rang.'Skye, I think I asked you to practice your archery on the field and not in front of our store, haven't I?'
A young, tall girl ran towards him, breathing heavily and eyes wide. She was wearing a grey cloak, and, on her back, she had a vessel with arrows and in her hand a handmade bow. Her hair was bright blue, and her eyes were purple.
'I'm sorry!', she apologized quickly. 'I thought I aimed right. - and I did aim right! I swear! But some stupid kid bumped into me when I let go and the arrow went out of the way! I couldn't summon it back in time!'
The man let her continue her rant – thinking it was quite amusing. He raised a single hand, and the girl fell quiet instantly.'When will you admit that your aim still isn't right?', he chuckled.
Now the girl's chest rose in anger and she stared with angry eyes towards her father. Her bright blue hair went from blue to red within a blink of an eye. Her fists clenched and she stomped onto the ground.'My aim is perfect!', she exclaimed angrily.
'Then why', the man hasn't raised his voice yet, nor he looked up from the newspaper. 'Is it every time you practice that there flies an arrow through my window?'
Skye opened her mouth to protest, but she did not have any answer that would convince him. So, she closed her mouth, let her hands hang beside her and let her head hang down.'I will never be good at archery...', she sighed, kicking the carpet softly.
Her hair slowly turned back to blue, only less bright and duller.
Her father now looked up, watching his daughter carefully.'Maybe you are good', he suggested.
He raised his hand, waiting for Skye to hand over her bow. She quickly did that and watched her father carefully. He placed the arrow on the bow and raised it.
'But how much do you want it?'
He pulled the rope of the bow back and let the back of the arrow rest just beside his cheek. He breathed in and aimed towards the open window. When he released his breath, he also released the rope. The arrow shot through the air, whistling loudly and it flew right through the window. It only stopped, when the arrow got stuck into a tree on the other side of the road. Skye her mouth had fallen open. She stared from the arrow to her father, back to the arrow.
'Go get it.', he said - placing the bow on the register. 'When you come back, could you please close the store? I'm going to check on your siblings.'
Skye nodded and ran away to get her bow.
Her father - Varitan - smiled as she ran away. He turned around and walked toward the back of the store, that lead towards his own house. When he was walking on the stairs, he heard laughter and screams coming from their living room. With two steps at the time, he walked towards the room and looked around. His two other kids - one boy and one girl - were basically turning the entire house upside down. Their mother was nowhere in sight
'What is going on here?!', he bellowed. The eldest boy named Daegal got started by his father and jumped up. Because of that, he dropped Harmony - his second youngest child - who was levitating in the air. She fell with great speed towards the ground, but with a snap of his fingers, she stopped falling right in the air. Varitan walked towards her and lifted her out the air, to put her down on the ground. Both of the kids have black hair and brown eyes - they could be twins, but they weren't.
'Dae, tell me; what were you two doing?', he asked - voice intimidating and stern - two things he rather not be.
Daegal's cheeks heated up and he crossed his arms nervously. He didn't dare to look at his father, just like Harmony. She was staring at the ground and shuffling rather nervously.
'Well?'
