It was late. A warm wind whips around you, blowing your hair into your face. Some hair blows into your mouth and you gag and spit.
How attractive.
You stand outside the sleeping quarters and tried to figure out your surroundings in the blackness. As your eyes adjusted to the dark, you could see the outlines of the structures around you. The homestead, the kitchen, the dining hall... but where was the pit?
You hadn't even heard of the pit before a few days ago, so how the hell are you supposed to find it?
You decide to start wandering the glade, to try and find something that seemed pit-like. It takes forever, but eventually you stumble across a series of ditches covered in bars of wood. Seemed like the kind of place they would put Gally.
"Gally," you whisper. "Gally!"
There's no response. You begin peeking into each pit, trying to find him.
First pit, nothing. Next one, nothing. Finally in the last one, a figure lays I the corner.
Of course it's the last one.
"Gally," You whisper sitting down on the ground. He stays in the same place. He must've sleeping.
"Gally!" You say a bit louder this time.
He rolls over and faces the opening. He groans and turns back to face the wall. "Chuck I told you to stop coming here," he mumbles sleepily.
Chuck's been here? Multiple times? You think to yourself.
"I've heard enough of your stupid stories," Gally continues. "I swear as soon as I get out of here I'm gonna..."
"It's not Chuck," you giggle softly. "It's me."
"Who the hell is me?" Gally growls annoyed. "As you can probably tell I can't see klunk."
"It's Juno."
He immediately turns back around. "Juno? Is it really you?"
He jumps up to the opening and grabs onto the bars, staring frantically out to you. "Oh my god it is you. I'm so sorry, Juno. I never meant for any of this too happen. I'm so glad you came. I was getting worried that you wouldn't come."
"Why wouldn't I?" You reach out and hold onto his hand.
"You saw what I did," he says sadly.
"I wanted to come, they just wouldn't let me."
"Makes sense," he says, probably more to himself.
"What's that supposed to mean?" You ask, confused.
"I'm dangerous."
"I know you, Gally. You're not dangerous."
Gally shakes his head. "You don't understand. It's weird to talk about. Sometimes my eyes blur over and I can't control what I do."
What's that supposed to mean? You decide not to think about it.
"So how long are you in here for?" You ask, changing to subject.
"I don't know."
"This is ridiculous. It was even that bad, what you did."
Gally shakes his head. "You don't understand. This isn't the first time this has happened. I'll probably be banished."
Banished. You heard Newt mention a banishment before.
"What's a banishment?" You ask, getting worried.
"They'll throw me out with the grievers when the door closes."
You inhale sharply. "But... but... nobody can survive the night in the maze!"
Gally rolls his eyes. "That's sorta the point."
"No! I'm not going to let that happen to you!" You say, starting to get up.
Gally' eyes widen. "Where are you going? Please stay!"
You finally manage to wedge the crutches under your arms. "I need to talk to Newt. There's no way on earth I'm letting you die like that."
Gally begs you to sit back down and forget about it, but you're already moving.
In a final attempt to get you to stay, Gally yells out, "Please don't leave me alone! I need you here with me!"
You turn and look back at Gally. His hand reaches out to you. Sighing, you go back and sit back down.
He grabs your hand. "Thank you. I've just been so alone and you were leaving so soon. You know they're not going to let you back here after this, right?"
You remember Newt yelling at you the first time you tried to come.
"It's been terrible," Gally continues. "I feel so bad about what I've done and you never came and I was starting to worry that you were mad at me. But I didn't know how badly you were hurt...."
"Gally," you say interrupting him. "Stop. All this rambling about me, when the real problem here is you. I'm fine. You're not. I have to do something."
You get back up and start walking away. This time Gally is silent.
He wasn't getting banished. Not on your watch.
