A Technical Win Is Still A Win

A week went by and Maya still hadn't heard from Flowey.

She went back to the flower patch a few times, but he wasn't there.

She went through all of Waterfall and the Ruins, but she couldn't find him.

Then she went through Hotland and New Home with Mettaton and Papyrus- even though the girl knew Flowey hated those places-, but there was no trace of him.

Maya even asked Toriel and Asgore if they had seen him, figuring he would maybe go to his parents to seek comfort.

'Or.. former parents? Argh, why does everything has to be so confusing when it comes to that stupid flower?', the girl thought grimly, letting her head fall down to rest on her crossed arms.

'I hope he's alright..'

Flowey had never stayed away from her for this long before and it was slowly driving her insane.

"I thought we were friends."

Maya quickly shook her head to get rid of the thought.

'We are friends, you idiot.', she reminded the voice of Flowey in her head.

Why couldn't he just talk to her?

Didn't he trust her?

The whole thing would be so much easier if Flowey wasn't so damn stubborn.

Why-

"Maya? This really isn't that difficult of a question."

Her head shot up to find the monsters around her stare at her.

"Huh?"

Mayas cheeks went slightly red from all the unwanted attention.

"Could you, uh, repeat that, Asgore?", she eventually stammered out, pointly ignoring Sans chuckle next to her, hand flying up to rub at her neck.

Gaster and Undyne shook their heads, the former extremely annoyed.

This wasn't the first time she spaced out during the meeting.

'I know you want to find your friend, my dear girl.', Gaster warned in her head, looking her directly in the eyes. 'But this is also important.'

Maya sighed and sat back up straight again, pushing the skeleton out of her head.

She knew that.

She knew this was important, damnit.

"If you are not feeling up to it, young one, we can always delay the meeting?", Asgores soft voice reached her ears, but Maya shook her head.

"No, no. It's alright. I just.. had a difficult week." She sighed. "Won't happen again, sorry."

The King stared at her for a second longer and Maya was reminded of the first time they met- the real first time, not two days ago, when Frisk reintroduced her.

"But only if you feel up to it, dear child." She nodded quickly, pushing all thoughts about Flowey out of her head, before the goat monster continued. "Well, Captain Undyne was asking if there might be anything else you remember from the attack or your time on the Surface."

A shiver went down her spine at the unpleasant memories that filled her head.

'I should've just stayed home today..'

"Uuh, I, uh, I can't really remember all that much from the, uh, the attack.."

Grillby gently pressed his burning hands on her shoulders, the gesture so familiar it grounded her.
