"So yeah, Charlie, this guy says if I train under him, he'll tell me about my past," Jack said, his voice tinged with cautious excitement.
"Really now?" Charlie's tone was skeptical but curious. "That's a pretty big offer. I know how much that means to you, kid. But... where are you exactly?"
Jack glanced around at his unfamiliar surroundings. The air felt heavy, and the eerie silence made his skin prickle. "Honestly? I have no idea. Some remote place, I guess. He didn't tell me much. Just said as soon as I hang up, my training starts."
Charlie paused for a moment before responding. "Sounds like you're stepping into something serious. You sure about this?"
Jack smirked faintly, trying to mask his own uncertainty. "Yeah, I think so. It feels... right. I mean, if this guy really has answers about who I am, it's worth the risk."
"Fair enough," Charlie said, his tone thoughtful. "Just be careful, alright? Don't let him push you too hard. And remember—trust your instincts. They've gotten you this far, kid."
Jack chuckled softly. "Right. Thanks, Charlie. You always know how to keep me grounded."
"That's what I'm here for," Charlie replied with a hint of warmth in his voice. Then, after a brief pause, he added, "Oh, and hey—don't forget to call your mom. She's been worried about you, you know."
Jack hesitated for a moment, guilt flickering across his face. "Yeah, you're right. I'll call her when I can. Thanks for reminding me."
"Good," Charlie said firmly. "Take care of yourself, Jack. And let me know how this whole training thing goes. You know I'll want to hear all about it."
Jack smiled faintly, gripping the phone tighter. "Will do. Thanks again, Charlie. Talk soon."
He ended the call and stared at the phone for a moment before slipping it into his pocket. With a deep breath, Jack straightened up and turned to face whatever awaited him. Not sure how to break the news to his adoptive mother, sure she had always supported him in the past but wasn't sure how she would react to all this. Once he opened the door standing behind it was two children a boy and girl.
The boy had dark green hair and bright green eyes that seemed to glow faintly in the dim light. He was leaning casually against the wall, arms crossed, with an expression of mild amusement on his face, thrown however by his mischievous smirk. His outfit consisted of a sleeveless black shirt, combat pants, and boots, giving off an air of someone who meant business, which Jack felt was strange since he was a kid. His dark green jacket, which hung slightly loose on his frame, matched the piercing intensity of his eyes. However, what truly captured Jack's attention was the necklace he wore—a crescent moon suspended on a thin silver chain
The girl standing next to him had short, night like purple hair that framed her face, and her piercing silver eyes locked onto Jack immediately. She wore a sleek, black outfit with intricate patterns that shimmered like midnight stars, paired with fingerless gloves. She had a calm but intimidating presence, like a blade hidden in a sheath.
The boy grinned as Jack approached. "So, you're the new guy, huh? You don't look like much," he teased, his voice laced with sarcasm.
The girl elbowed him sharply, causing him to wince. She motioned her hands around in an elegant yet firm pattern. The boy rolled his eye in acknowledgment . She turned her attention to Jack, studying him for a moment. Jack looked back her and waved awkwardly.
Jack raised an eyebrow, slightly taken aback by the duo's dynamic. "Uh, thanks... I guess. So, are you two also trainees or something?"
The boy chuckled, shaking his head. "Nah, we're not your trainers, newbie. We're more like... your residents. But don't think we'll go easy on you just because you're new. You better keep up, or you'll get left behind. I'm Loki and this talkative one is Syra." He said sacristy poking her arm.
