Chapter 10

Walking out of my office and into the hallway, the chatter from the cafe is already reaching my ears. The hallway is distinctly empty and it's almost like as soon as the clock reaches lunchtime, the workers rush out to the cafe like kids rushing out to recess.

Actually, I misspoke. There was one person still standing in the hallway, and that was Sam. I grin and make my way over to his also grinning face. He loops his arm around my shoulder and we make our way to the cafe. But of course, with my luck, running into Alexander wasn't too surprising. Although, his reaction to Sam having his arm around me was a bit surprising.

On the other side of the hallway, I saw Alexander approaching with a stoic face. As soon as he saw Sam and me, his expression almost hardened. His eyes squinted and he just stared at Sams' arm around my shoulders.

"Hello, Samuel. Hello Miss. Gregory. I never knew you were this intimate with other people other than your boyfriend." We just stood there shocked before Sam stood up for us and just responded with,

"We're just close friends Mr.Volk."

I was still standing there staring at Alexander with my eyes wide open.

How dare he accuse me of cheating on my boyfriend. He's such a creep! Mark was right, who does this man think he is? He cannot just be let go by saying such remarks to an employee.

"In that case, have a nice lunch." he curtly responds while looking me dead in the eye.

Reaching the cafe, I can see Jace sitting at the table with Stacy, with Andrew there as well. Sam still has his arm around my shoulders and for some reason, it makes me feel a bit better about the situation. Why is it that it seems every day I have at least 2 strange and quite uncomfortable encounters with my CEO?

We sit down at the table and automatically I notice Elaine is missing.

"Hey guys, where's Elaine?" I ask.

"Oh, she stayed back in the office to finish up her work there. Apparently boss called her in for something." I nod in response and just open up my lunch box which hides a small piece of pizza.

"Heyyyy Andrew. Are you and Stacy dating??" I hear from Sam. After that comment, it was the first time I saw someone have to use the Heimlich on another person. Andrew began choking and Stacy was coughing like crazy. After Jace performed the Heimlich on Andrew, he and Stacy went to the nurse on site.

Sam and Jace began talking as if it never happened. I rolled my eyes and hoped that Andrew was ok, but was secretly hoping Stacy and Jace would end up dating. But that's not my business to decide nor talk about.

As they talked, I began to think. When Alexander said what he said in the corridor, he almost seemed to be referring to himself as the boyfriend. He almost seemed jealous?? I assumed that he was just messing with me during the car ride, but now it seems that he may have actually meant it...

I shake my head of all these ideas. What has gotten into me today? I snap out of it as Sam starts waving his hand in front of my face.

"Hey, we're getting dreams tonight, you wanna come? It's like a huge company booze night- er more like an extended happy hour for company money," he smirks then winks at me.

I chuckle and nod my head in agreement. It seems like I'm going out tonight! Maybe after drinking, all my different thoughts would numb...
