I rolled out of bed and fell on the floor with a thud.
"Ow.." I hissed. I look around, not knowing where the hell am I and then it clicked. I was in the Laurence's guest room.
Sighing, I went to the bathroom to wash my face and brush my teeth. I religiously checked my phone while combing my hair before heading downstairs still in one of Isabel's pajamas. Speaking of Isabel, I wonder how is she. After Nick told us the news, he went home. A few minutes after that, Aidan an Jordan also went home, leaving the rest of us in the family room. Isabel was silent. She excused herself and went to her room and didn't even come out for dinner. When I knocked on her door to deliver her food, there was no response. That's when I knew that she was having a mental breakdown. The girl NEVER turns down food. So, I decided to leave her alone and let her heal from the episode. I was pretty sure that she wasn't crying. No matter how sad, lonely or deposed she's feeling, the girl never cries. The last time she cried was when she was 8. When her mother suddenly fainted and they were alone in the house. I mean, she didn't even cry when her father left them when she was 6.
"Hey, Carter." I greeted.
"Hey, Cee." He said, giving me a weak smile. His eyes were strained and his speech was slurry. He also had eye bags. He looked like he had a rough night. Must've been up all night thinking about whats going to happen to Isabel.
"We look so good." I joked.
"Damn right. We could go be Cosmopolitan's cover models." Carter said, playing along.
We sighed in unison.
"Has she been down yet?" I asked.
"Nope." He said popping the 'p' and shaking his head. "Not even last night. I checked on her every two hours and she didn't even come down for food."
"Oh dear." I gasped. It was okay for her to excuse herself from dinner and have a breakdown but, not even sneaking out to get food at 2AM? That's just isn't Isabel.
"We need Nick." Carter hissed. "We need him to fix this mess. To fix Isabel."
I fought the urge to blurt out 'awwwww'. Carter maybe a heartless, womanizing bastard on the outside but he's a huge teddy bear on the inside. The only soft spot he has is Isabel.
"Agreed." I grabbed an already-made coffee by Aunt Jessa from the kitchen counter and looked around.
"Where's the rest?" I asked.
"Cee, it's her second day. They're always the worst." Carter said, sipping his hot chocolate.
I grabbed a piece of bread and sat down beside him. I studied him for a bit. If Carter wasn't Isabel's brother, I'd probably be head-over-heels for him. Not that anyone needed to know. Just like the Bro Code, there's also this unspoken rule for girls to not date their best friend's brother. I'm pretty sure that Isabel would love it if I date his brother but, Aidan had to come along. Damn that hot boy.
I took a sip of the coffee and my eyes widened.
"Oh shit!" I burst out. Carter gave me a look that clearly says that he fears for my sanity. "It's her second day, which means the blood flow is stronger and... Oh, shit. She might just have an anaemic attack!"
Carer jumped from his seat, set his hot chock down on the table and sprinted to Isabel's room with me trailing behind him.
"Isabel?" Carter pounded the door. "Isabel, are still alive in there?!"
I look at Carter like he grew a second head. "Do you have a spare key?"
"No, but we could always break down the door."
