You hummed to yourself as you made your way to the school library. You came to return some books early so they wouldn't become overdue.
Putting your bag on the outside port rack, you stepped into the cooled building before sliding your books through the return slot.
Hmmm... nobody was in here? Maybe it was a good time to scavenge for that book you had been looking for.
Stepping into the secluded shelves of the library, you searched high and low for the book you were in search for.
Coming close to the end of the alphabetically organized books, you heard light sniffling and stopped.
Where was that sound coming from?
Following the whimpers and small cries, you found a boy huddled in the corner of the history section.
"Hello?" He looked up at you wide eyed before profusely wiping his eyes. You frowned and came over to kneel beside him. "Why are you crying?"
He shrugged and turned his face from you. Catching a glimpse of a bruise on his jawbone, you softly took one of his wrists in your hold before pulling it to his lap.
There was a bruise clearly forming on his face as you cringed back at the hurt piece of skin.
"Why do you gave this bruise?" You asked sitting beside him and gently brushing your fingers over his bruise.
"I-I..." He spluttered as you saw more tears forming in his eyes. Without another word, you turned him and brought him into a tight hug. Hugs always made things a bit better. And by the looks of it, this boy needed one.
He took the hug and pulled you closer before quietly crying onto your shoulder. You patted his back soothingly and hummed the same tune you had been today beside his ear.
"What's your name?" You asked as he closed his eyes resting against you.
"Marcel..." He breathed barely audible.
"Marcel." You repeated. "Do you have any friends Marcel?" He shook his head no as you pulled him back and smiled weakly at him. "Then I'm glad to say that I'll be your friend."
Marcel was stunned. Did a stranger really just offer him a friendship?
You wiped a loose tear from his cheek and giggled.
"If you want to be friends that is." Marcel quickly regained himself and nodded eagerly.
"Y-yes please!" You couldn't help but find the boy cute. And you couldn't help but think about how long this friendship would last.
But you were happy to say that it lasted out of high school years and right til death. Marcel was one of the closest friends you had your entire life.
