We were in our weekly devotional assembly. It was only yesterday I found out my locket has been stolen. And I felt empty without it. So empty, it hurts. I've been contemplating going back to True for the locket, but that would be a low move. So now I'm learning to live life without it. Even my parents realised I didn't have it when I got home that evening.
They offered to replace it, but I told them it wouldn't even make sense; it wouldn't have much of a meaning to it like the first one. It simply wouldn't be the same.
I looked around me, and I realized Alice was less than a meter behind me. Same purple hair. She seemed smaller than usual, as if she lost weight. She wore black boots with white overalls and a pink t-shirt. In other words, she looked different. She gave off some kind of punk vibe.
"Guess what I heard," Hannah said, who was standing next to me. "Someone has drugs at school."
"Good for them," I bluntly stated.
"The thing is, I've been thinking about probably reporting the matter to the principal."
I raised my eyebrows "Wow, that's a bold move. Why do you wanna do that though?"
"The idea of drug usage kind of scares me. If you have the audacity to use drugs, I don't see why you wouldn't want to use a gun, either. People like that gotta go, Ce-ce," she fumbled with the zipper on her lime green hoodie.
"Then what's stopping you?"
"What happens if the user found out I'm the one who reported them?"
"I believe whenever such things are brought to the staff, it's kept confidential," I told her. Hannah furrowed her eyebrows, slowly nodding her head.
"Okay students. Your are dismissed. Please move in an orderly fashion to your classes," Principal Gayle spoke from the platform. I whipped my head around, and Alice wasn't there anymore. But I didn't care. Right now I had a assignment to worry about.
"There you guys are," Livie saluted, walking to us from the crowd.
Livie and Hannah have the same class right now. And I had class with Alice. And True. And Chase.
"See you around, Celine" Hannah and Livie waved at me.
"Sure," I waved back.
I walked to class on my own. I stopped at the class door, lining up like everyone else waiting for the teacher to open the door.
I saw Alice trying to talk to Chase. And all he did was nod his head at everything she was saying. Then I saw True join the line. Our eyes locked for a moment, but I broke it. I don't need thieves in my life.
I stood there, waiting for what seemed like forever, before I finally saw Mr Taylor coming.
"I'm terribly sorry for having you guys wait so long," he fumbled with the keys. "As soon as you get inside, turn your textbooks to page forty and complete the activity that's there." Everyone groaned in response. Typical.
Once I got inside, I plopped my bag on the ground next to my seat, opened it up, and pulled out my books for class.
I tried looking for a pen, but no avail. Great. Now I have to ask people for one. Groaning, I got up and went to Mr Taylor instead of a classmate. "Good morning Mr Taylor. Do you have any pens I could probably borrow?" I put on a fake smile.
He fumbled around in his pencil case, before handing me a simple black ball point pen. "Thank you, sir," I said, and almost immediately after Alice appeared next to me, totally ignoring my existence.
"I need to go to the bathroom. May I?" I observed that she still had her bag on her back.
"Sure," Mr Taylor kept his eyes glued to his phone.
