A Cup of Coffee

"Yeah, and there's another one in December!" I overheard Livie Hanson talking about the parties she planned for.

"But that's December! It's March for crying out loud," my best friend, Alice Cooke, smirked at Livie.

"The earlier I think about it, the better it will be," she said with an intense smile. Livie was one of those crazy people... in a good way. She always managed to put a smile on anyone's face. She had long, wavy chestnut hair and vibrant green eyes. She wore a nice yellow T-shirt, her favorite colour, and black ripped jeans. She was most certainly beautiful.

Not to mention Alice. She had straight dirty blond hair that stopped in the middle of her back. She had soft brown eyes and light freckles on her face. Today, she wore a black tank top along with white skinny jeans. She was the cutest one in the batch.

Then you have me, Celine. I'm a typical shy, Latin American girl. Everyone says I'm rare beauty, with raven hair, icy blue eyes, thick eyebrows, and a smile that has the power to make your heart stop beating. I don't know why, but I never really felt that way.

"Celine? What's going on in your head?"

I snapped my head to face Alice, who looked at me with concern.

"Oh, I was just thinking about how great we all looked," I said with a small smile.

We were in the coffee shop, hanging out like we usually do on Wednesday evenings after school.

"You look the best if you ask me," said Livie.

Today, I decided to wear a simple white lacy dress with a matching pair of flats. I also happened to wear the golden locket my mom gave me for my thirteenth birthday. That was four years ago.

"Thanks," I said. I soon saw the elderly man coming to us with our ordered coffee. "Good evening, girls," he said with a brilliant smile.

"Good evening," we all said in unison. The old man carefully placed the cups on our table. "Thank you," we said, before he went back into the kitchen he was coming from.

I took a sip of my French Vanilla. Delicious, as usual.

We sat there in a comfortable silence, sipping away at our coffee. But then Livie suddenly started to widen her green eyes at something behind me.

I glanced at Alice, who was also staring at something behind me. I slowly turned around to see what was happening. And there he was.

Chase Silverman stood at the doorway. Curly brown hair that reminds me of dark chocolate, blue eyes that can take you to the ocean, and a dimpled smile that can make any girl swoon...

He was like an angel from heaven.

I sat there, staring like there was no tomorrow. If anyone was rare beauty, it was him.

"Oh my gosh!" Livie whispered. "It's Chase!"

I slowly turned around, feeling a flutter in my stomach. I decided to enjoy my coffee in peace. The girls in front of me stared at him nonetheless.

"Isn't he gorgeous?," Livie said turning to Alice. "Uh, yeah," she said. You could literally see her face heat up.

I wanted to just kind of ignore his presence, to be honest. Sure, he's super cute and all, but the thing is...

He witnessed one of the most embarrassing moments of my life.

Just thinking about that day makes my head hurt.

"Hold on, guys. I wanna use the bathroom," I said to Livie and Hannah. The three of us were coming from English class together.
