A/N - Hey guys! I just want to preface this chapter with the fact that I do not work in journalism, nor have any experience in it, so if how Evelyn and the people at THEMEGA work is not realistic/accurate, just use your imagination and bare with me cuz this is just how I imagine it. Happy reading! I promise it will be picking up dramatically soon...
. . .
It's the next morning and I am finally speeding off to work. Emma came over around 7 as usual to help with breakfast and keep Ginny occupied while I got ready for the day. Except this morning Ginny was not having it. She woke up the same way she went to bed last night and threw a massive tantrum the entire time I was trying to leave. It seriously made my heart hurt, but today wasn't any different than any other Monday I go off to work, so I don't understand why she was being so clingy. As much as I love that girl, I am really annoyed because now I am running late and am probably going to miss half of the morning meeting.
As I swerve through traffic, trying to get to the office as fast as I can, I call Cara and let the phone ring over the bluetooth speakers in my car.
"Hey, where are you? Normally you're here by now!" I hear the sound of things shuffling around her and I know she's trying to get everything set for our daily morning huddle.
"Ugh, Cara, I am so sorry. I'm running late. Ginny was giving me such a hard time both last night and this morning and so I'll be there in 15 if traffic allows.." I huff, honking at the car in front of me because they are not moving whatsoever.
"Please drive safe! I'll see you when you get here and we'll go over your assignment for the day." I am so grateful for how understanding she is. She's only a few years older than me and has worked her ass off to get where she is, so in that sense she understands that I am just trying to do my best to get by.
After spending twenty-five fucking minutes in LA traffic, I make it to the office, practically sprinting inside. I don't waste time going to my office first, so I rush inside to the morning huddle. Everyone's eyes dart straight to me as I walk in the door.
"I'm so sorry, guys!" I speak softly, trying to catch my breath as I take a seat next to Andrew and Kimmy, two other journalists on our team.
"That's okay. We've pretty much finished discussing our assignments, so you kinda got stuck with the last pick." Cara says as she hands me over a blue manila folder with all my info for the day.
"It's fine. I'll take whatever and run with it." I say as I grab my water bottle out of my bag and gulp that shit down. Cara dismisses everyone and they all start to file out, going to their own work spaces to begin working on their pieces.
I don't know how other companies do it, but at THEMEGA, we have different divisions each with different jobs that contribute to the making of an article. We've got the photographers, who essentially are just like paparazzi, but more kind and respectful. We've got a team of insiders who go to all kinds of events and just report back what they heard, saw, or discovered along the way. Then there's Cara's team, the actual writers. Cara's assistants compile all of the information into a computerized system, so we can easily find anything we need to include in an article. Each morning Cara gives a run down of new info and we brainstorm articles to be published either the next day or later in the week.
What I like about being a writer specifically is that you really get to tell a story. Sure, there are times that we're asked to go out just like the insiders do and find publish-worthy content, but that's more like a side job. I really like how I can live my own life separate from the celebrity world, but still be able to feel connected. Many people rely on THEMEGA's content for the latest updates on all things in the celebrity world. Why are people so obsessed with people's drama? I will never know but at least the process is kind of fun?
